In 2019, Ferrari introduced two cars called “SF90,” a designation that referenced the 90th anniversary of the founding of Scuderia Ferrari. At first glance, these two vehicles could not have been more radically different: One was a
monoposto
racecar, Ferrari’s finely honed contender for the 2019 Formula One season. The other, the SF90 Stradale, was an extreme supercar intended—as its name indicated—primarily for the road.
In reality, both cars share far more than nomenclature. Continuing Ferrari’s longstanding practice of adapting motorsport technology for the road, both the F1 car and the SF90 Stradale are built around an advanced hybrid powertrain; the SF90 Stradale features a 769-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, along with three electric motors (one behind each front wheel and one at the rear) and a 7.9-kilowatt lithium-ion battery pack. Although this hybrid system enables up to 16 miles of electric-only driving—certainly a nice bonus—the main purpose is power: The motors can deliver up to 217 additional horsepower, for an incredible total system output of 986 horsepower.
The SF90 Stradale’s acceleration and top speed figures are predictably staggering: 0-60 mph takes just 2.5 seconds, and the top speed is a stated 211 mph. As with a Formula One racer, however, velocity is only one part of the equation. This new supercar features Ferrari’s latest suite of agility-enhancing technology. The two front motors permit torque-vectoring control, while the F1 Traction Control, E-Diff, Electronic Side Slip Angle Control, and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer 2.0 are standard. Ferrari’s signature, steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector dial, here dubbed the “eManettino,” not only governs performance parameters (as with other Ferraris), but also controls the various states of hybrid-electric operation and battery power regeneration.
The car’s exterior is a sculptural masterpiece of aerodynamic devices, which manipulate airflow to control drag and downforce via several active elements. Inside, the thoroughly high-tech cockpit features a fully digital dashboard and touch controls. All results in a car that truly embraces and integrates the latest in tech in pursuit of the ultimate driving experience, whether on road or track.
Owned from new by the consignor, this car was delivered via Ferrari of Central Florida in Orlando. Finished in the classic Ferrari livery of Rosso Corsa over an interior trimmed in black and red, it features a slate of options that brought its total retail price to $741,546. Notable additions include Apple CarPlay and the AFS lighting system, as well as optional carbon fiber components that include: the rear diffuser and side air splitters, the engine cover, the underdoor covers and door panels, the instrument cluster, rear shelf, and even the upper tunnel trim. Red brake calipers and massive carbon ceramic brakes are visible behind the black wheels, which are also made of lightweight, exposed-weave carbon fiber.
Since delivery, this SF90 Stradale has seen only limited road use while residing in the consignor’s private collector; its odometer displays just 1,116 miles at time of cataloguing, and consequently, the car presents in as-new condition. It is accompanied by its window sticker and hybrid system plug-in charger.
From the very beginning, Enzo Ferrari sought to incorporate racing technology into the road cars that bore his name.
