At the 1971 Turin Auto Show, Ferrari reasserted itself atop the supercar hierarchy with the introduction of the 365 GT4 BB. Gone was the marque’s signature front-mounted V-12 engine in favour of a mid-mounted flat-12, with the new car cloaked in a unique wedge design that became synonymous with Ferrari’s design language for decades to come.
Updated for 1976, the Ferrari 512 BB retained the striking styling e of its predecessor while delivering even greater performance and refinement. Maranello rewarded enthusiasts with a beautifully balanced, mid-engined grand tourer offering class-leading handling, arresting looks, and 355 horsepower from its naturally aspirated flat-12 engine. Named in homage to the earlier 512 race car, the 512 BB featured an enlarged 4.9-litre engine with a higher compression ratio and fuel delivery via four triple-barrel Weber carburettors.
The 512 BB offered here, chassis number 24669, was completed on 9 June 1978 finished in Rosso Chiaro over Beige Connolly leather trim. A left-hand-drive example, the was one of only approximately 100 cars delivered new to Switzerland, arriving a few weeks later via official Ferrari importer SAVAF (Société Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari). By 1982 it was owned by a Mr Barras in Switzerland, who sold it to a subsequent Swiss owner in 1990. In June 1999 the car was consigned to an auction in Geneva, where the odometer was noted to display approximately 56,000 kilometres.
The car was later acquired by The Tailored For Speed Collection in 2015 via official Swiss Ferrari dealer Niki Hasler AG of Basel. The Ferrari was notably serviced in 2021 by Niki Hasler, which included the replacement of belts, while the odometer read 58,635 kilometres. With an odometer reading of 58,793 kilometres at the time of cataloguing, the car is fitted with 512 BBi wheels and is further accompanied by a jack, space saver spare wheel, and tool kit, further to its Ferrari books and manuals.
Powered by a Formula 1–derived flat-12 and defined by its iconic wedge-shape that influenced Ferrari’s design philosophy for decades, the 512 BB remains one of its era’s most exhilarating supercars, with this exceptional example showcasing that brilliance in full.
