Introduced in 1985 as an updated to the Ferrari 400i, the 412 appeared largely similar to its predecessor at first glance, but included several important cosmetic and mechanical updates. Leonardi Fioravanti’s design was further refined by Pininfarina to incorporate a higher boot-line which brought about increased luggage space, as well as a deeper front air dam, redesigned sill panels, body-coloured inserts, and a new wheel design.
Mechanically, behind those wheels was a Bosch ABS system, a first for Ferrari. Under the bonnet, the V-12 engine’s displacement was increased to 4,942 cc, which helped to increase power to 340 bhp, an 8% increase. Acceleration from 0-62 mph was achieved in 6.7 seconds, which a top speed of 150 mph capable if pushed further. Inside, the leather-clad cabin was also tweaked to improve the ergonomics of the switchgear and ensure that cross-continental journeys could be dispatched with a minimum of fuss.
According to the accompanying original warranty manual, this 412 was delivered to its first owner in Venice in May 1986. Painted in the elegant colour of light blue and trimmed in cream leather, it presents in fine condition. The aforementioned warranty manual shows a rich service history throughout its life, with the most recent official service in 2013 at 34,012 km, and was acquired by a collector in 2017. In his ownership, the car largely remained in static storage and was serviced in-house on a regular basis.
Acquired by the consignor last year, over €7,000 has been spent in service work to bring this car to a higher standard, and it would surely make for a wonderful driver.
