Honoring the four consecutive victories scored by Ferrari’s 250 GT “long-wheelbase” Berlinettas at the grueling Tour de France from 1956 through 1959, the F12tdf was introduced in October 2015. Recalling the iconic, dual-purpose Ferrari GT models of the late 1950s and early 1960s, the track-focused F12tdf celebrated the marque’s legendary racing heritage with its sinewy Berlinetta body design and V-12 power. Its heritage is peerless, based on the “clean sheet” F12 Berlinetta, itself derived from the 599, which debuted at Geneva in March 2012.
As is the case with the engineering artistry that is Ferrari, development of the F12tdf commenced in mid-2014, with Ferrari engineers working through a series of prototypes to turn the F12 of 2012 into an engineering tour de force fitting of the Tour de France name. This 2014 Ferrari F12tdf Prototype MP4 was among those used by Ferrari in the development of the marque’s track-focused F12tdf leading up to its monumental October 2015 release.
This prototype, designated MP4, represents one of the finest milestones of the project and stands as a unique, evolutionary example of Ferrari’s model development process, offering an insight into the incredible engineering efforts that take a new Ferrari from concept to reality.
