This 2017 Ferrari F12tdf is powered by a 6.3L V-12 engine that produces 769 HP, an amazing output of 2 HP per cubic inch of displacement with naturally aspirated induction. One of a mere 799 produced, this fabulous machine is just past the break-in stage with only 1,157 miles on the odometer. The moniker “tdf” is an acronym for Tour de France, a race that Ferrari won with remarkable regularity from 1956-64. Just as the “tdf” name pays homage to the rich motorsports history of the prancing-horse brand from Maranello, the Ferrari F12tdf is the intended spiritual successor to the 275 GTB that was first introduced in 1964.
The 275 GTB was a V-12-powered Berlinetta with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. It was the first Ferrari to use a rear-mounted transaxle mated to the front engine via a torque tube to produce ideal front-to-rear weight distribution. Such is the case with the F12tdf that uses that same basic design architecture. With a dry weight of only 3,120 pounds, the F12tdf has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 4.05 to 1, enabling a top speed of 211 MPH and a standing start to 60 MPH elapsed time of just 2.9 seconds.
Ferrari has generously applied its Formula 1 technology into the F12tdf with its 7-speed dual-clutch automated semi-automatic gearbox activated via paddle shifters, magnetorheological suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, carbon-ceramic disc brakes with ABS and F1-Trac traction control. Just like a Formula 1 car, the F12tdf has controls for the stability, traction, suspension and other settings controlled by the Manettino dial-mounted in the center of the steering wheel.
