The Cadillac Eldorado Brougham set the modern standard of the world and helped thrust Cadillac into the top slot of American luxury, as the ultimate in Cadillac division engineering and design in a hand-built limited-production car. The Ed Glowacke-designed masterpiece made its debut in 1957 and continued largely unchanged with just 304 examples produced in 1958. The Eldorado Brougham was the first pillarless 4-door with a window line unencumbered even by Ventipanes. The brushed stainless-steel roof was joined by a trim package unique to the Eldorado Brougham with four-across headlights adding another measure of distinction.
This 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham shows just 49,845 miles on the odometer set into the jewel-like speedometer. Performance and luxury were not strangers to Cadillac. By 1958, the 365-cubic-inch Cadillac V-8 was rated for 335 horsepower with triple Rochester carburetors backed by a Hydra-Matic transmission, developed at great expense by General Motors for 1956 to provide smoother automatic shifting into the future. Power steering and brakes deliver road control and an upgraded self-leveling suspension automatically adjusts to loads from passengers or cargo. The Cadillac Eldorado Brougham rides on steel wheels equipped with whitewall tires and original full wheel covers.
The body was refreshed into its correct Deauville Gray color in 2009 with the brushed stainless-steel roof panel accenting the iconic lines. The front and suicide-style rear doors open out to reveal Cadillac appointments. The interior was reupholstered in correct Medium Blue leather and Parisienne cloth for a return to peak 1958 style and comfort. The original AM radio was converted to AM/FM operation. Power windows and automatic decklid are joined by a glovebox-mounted tissue dispenser, cigarette case, ladies compact, leather-backed mirror, Cross mechanical pencil and an onboard perfume atomizer that held one ounce of Lanvins Arpege.
