Custom built by Ron’s Street Rods of Lodi, Wisconsin, this 1964 Buick Skylark two-door hardtop coupe, a rare Special Deluxe model, is motivated by a fresh, 430 HP LS3 V-8 GM crate engine and a new 6L80E 6-speed GM automatic transmission. An aluminum radiator keeps the new engine cool while an Auburn 3.73 Positraction differential distributes power to the back tires. Wilwood front disc brakes offer peace of mind while Borgeson power steering makes maneuvering the Skylark a simpler task. Sustaining the maneuverability and peace of mind, the Buick has been fitted with a QA1 suspension with coilovers and a sway bar.

The body has been refinished in custom black paint, all the stainless trim has been polished and all the chrome is new. Adding to the noir image, the glass is tinted and backed by a restored black interior with an updated center console and customized dashboard with Dakota Digital instrumentation. Bucket seats and Old Air heat and air conditioning help keep occupants comfortable. The Buick rolls on blackwall tires and new 17-inch chrome US Mag wheels, the engine breathes via Pypes dual exhaust system, and the wipers are powered by a Newport Engineering wiper motor.

Introduced in 1953 as a halo car for both Buick and GM, the Skylark was an exceedingly expensive car, which resulted in limited sales and caused its demise by the end of 1954. For the 1961 model year, GM sought to tap into the massive, emerging youth market and thus introduced three new, smaller models, all sharing the same basic engineering and architecture: the Pontiac Tempest, the Oldsmobile F-85 and the Buick Special. By mid-1961, Buick introduced a more upscale Special Skylark featuring a number of trim and interior upgrades while also including a higher-performance V-8 engine.

It proved to be a popular car, warranting its own Skylark line by 1964, and it spanned production through 1998.
