In 1986, Buick turbo engineers were warming to their task of maximum performance from a 6-cylinder, and the Grand National got an intercooler and improved plenum for 235 horsepower and more torque. It was now completely black, with nearly no chrome. The last year for the Grand National was 1987 and, as the last mid-sized, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe, the demand surged. The 1987 Grand National was the fastest year, with 245hp, a 0-60 time of just 6.1 seconds, and a 13.85 quarter-mile at 99.2 mph. With a lack of muscle cars offered to the public at the time, those who went for a test drive – or even better, bought a Grand National – were hooked by the astonishly quick car's good power curve and impressive responsiveness.
Powered by its turbocharged 3.8-liter, 245hp V6 engine, this car has an automatic transmission and just over 89,000 miles on the odometer. With its black exterior and gray interior, it is loaded with options, including digital read-outs, air conditioning, cruise control, original alloy wheels, and power windows and locks. Restoration receipts exceeding $30,000 are included in the sale, as are the original owner’s manual and warranty book, extra keys, remote and instruction manuals. Most recently, in June 2016, with 87,359 miles on the odometer, a complete service, inspection and various repairs were done totaling almost $3,000. In addition, a MagnaFlow exhaust system was recently installed.
