Chevrolet may already be working on the next generation of its Equinox EV, even as the current model experiences a slowdown in sales. According to a report from GM Authority, the redesigned electric SUV is expected to debut in late 2028 or early 2029 before arriving in dealerships as a 2029 model.
The report claims the upcoming Equinox EV will move from GM's current BEV3 platform to the brand's new BEV-N architecture. If accurate, it would give the compact electric crossover an all-new foundation just a few years after the first-generation model debuted for the 2024 model year. While Chevrolet has not confirmed these details, the company also hasn't ruled them out. A spokesperson simply stated that it does not comment on future product plans.
The timing is interesting because the Equinox EV's momentum has slowed in 2026. After a strong 2025, when Chevrolet sold 57,945 units—making it the best-selling non-Tesla EV of the year—the model has struggled to maintain that pace. Through the first half of 2026, sales reached 16,249 units, placing it behind rivals such as the Toyota bZ and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Despite those numbers, General Motors appears committed to expanding its EV lineup. A next-generation Equinox EV built on a more advanced platform could deliver improved efficiency, updated technology, and better overall performance. Could a fresh design and new architecture help the Equinox EV regain its position among the segment's best sellers? Will the BEV-N platform give Chevrolet a stronger edge over its competitors? Or is the compact EV market becoming more competitive than ever?
For now, GM remains silent, leaving enthusiasts waiting for official confirmation.
