Porsche 911 Type 996 GT3-R (N-GT), 1999
Chassis No.: WPOZZZ99ZYS692061 Engine No.: 631 23001 Estimate: €300,000 - €350,000 EUR • Production no. 041 0001 • FIA homologation no. N-GT 002 • Engine type: M96.77 • Gearbox no. 200 2093 • First 996 GT3-R to be delivered from the factory Launched in 1999, the Type 996-generation GT3-R was the first of the water-cooled racers. Fitted with a 41.3mm air restrictor plate to comply with FIA regulations, its Type M96/77 3.6-litre flat-six engine produced approximately 405 horsepower. The GT3-R enjoyed considerable success with notable class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999 and 2000. It is estimated that only 65 examples of the racing version were built to the 2000 model-year specification, Delivered new to Taisan Inernational Inc in Tokyo on 2nd August 1999, this specific car is believed to be the first chassis number of these 52 cars to leave the factory for delivery to Taisan Racing. The car was flown out to Taisan Racing directly from the factory to ensure that the team had it ready for JGTC-II Fuji just five days after its arrival at the airport. The team was immediately successful with their new car, finishing 1st in the JGTC-II Fuji on 8th August 1999; 1st the JGTC-II Motegi on 24th October 1999; and securing another win at the Le Mans Fuji 1000km on 7th November 1999. It should be noted that his car had two numbers in different race classes: 'N.81' at the Le Mans Fuji 1000km and 'N.26' in the JGTC races. It is also worthwhile noting that this car has a Japanese amulet mounted behind the driver's seat, which was probably installed immediately after the well-known Japanese racing team took delivery. The amulet symbolises road safety, often called kotsu anzen , and is attached to vehicles to ask for protection during journeys. The amulet bears the imperial seal in the centre and is probably from a Shinto shrine. The Porsche 996 GT3-R needed very little setting-up, as Hideshi Matsuda and his German co-driver Dominique Schwager started from 5th place on the grid and were soon battling with cars such as the Mazda RX-7, Nissan Silvia and Mitsubishi FTO. Behind them were Team Taisan's second regular crew: Hiroaki Suga and Eiichi Tajima in a Porsche 911 RSR. The debut had a very happy conclusion, as the STP-sponsored Porsche 996 GT3-R won its first race in Japan, setting a new class lap record in the process just shy of eight days after it had been delivered. Full of optimism, Team Taisan Advan headed to Suzuka for the Polka 1,000 kilometres race in August following its success at Le Mans Fuji. For team boss Ricky Chiba, anything less than a top ten finish would have been a disappointment. Despite the unbearable heat, similar to that experienced during the 1995 race, Hideshi Matsuda, Heidi Fukuyama and Kazyuki Nishizawa in the 911 GT3-R stuck to their plan and ultimately finished 4th in the overall standings, making them winners of the GT300 classification. Team Taisan Advan dominated the GT300 class of the All-Japan Grand Touring Championship (JGTC) with their 996 GT3-R, claiming three victories in seven rounds. Hideo Fukuyama's successes earned him the GT300 Drivers' Championship, making it a thoroughly satisfactory season for the team. On 7th November 1999, wearing the race number '81', this GT3-R was driven by Hideshi Matsuda and Dominique Schwager in the Le Mans Fuji 1000km (197 laps). The Porsche crossed the finish line in 1st position in the GT category, leading by 21 laps from the 2nd car in the GT Class. Returning to the year 2000 JGTC season, H Matsuda and H Fukuyama secured three victories that year: JGTC-II Motegi on 2nd April, Suzuka 1000km GT-300 on 27th August and JGTC-II Mine 1st October wearing race number '26'. The Porsche remained in Tokyo until June 2007 when it was acquired by a new owner in Sweden. In April 2012 this car was bought by its current owner, who has kept it in its original condition, believed to be the same as when it left the ownership of Team Taisan. It still has the six-speed manual gearbox, the original tank, original seat, etc, all dated 1999. To make this car race-ready, the owner suggests that a thorough race preparation check be carried out as the fuel tank, seat and safety belt need to be replaced to meet the current FIA specification. Prospective purchasers are encouraged to perform their own technical inspection prior to driving the car on the track.

Porsche 911 (996) GT3, 2000
Chassis No.: WP0ZZZ99ZY5691356 Engine No.: 63Y01813 £48,375 | Sold A left-hand drive, German-market, 996 GT3 with only 74,105km from new. On offer from private ownership, an homage to the iconic livery of the German Polizei. It's basically a standard 996 GT3 with the graphics and lights etc. fitted by its owner. 355bhp, 3.6-litre engine, communicative chassis, superb brakes, perfect control weighting, precise steering. The famous Polizei cars were modelled by Corgi Toys and Scalextric. 74,105km from new. Graphics easily removable leaving a very attractive, low mileage GT3. Intended primarily for competition, although still fully road legal, the Porsche 911 GT3 can trace its ancestry all the way back through a succession of high-performance models to the legendary 911 Carrera RS of 1973. The car takes its name from the FIA's GT3 category of production sports car racing and has been produced in a variety of versions since its introduction in 1999 when the GT3 badges were applied to the Type 996 iteration of the perennial 911. The 3.6-litre flat-six engine, though, departed from mainstream Type 996 practice by virtue of its water-cooled cylinders, leaving only the heads cooled by air. Called the 'Metzger' engine after its designer, Hans Metzger, this unit was closely related to that of the Porsche 962 'Sports Prototypes' and the 911 GT1 racer. In the GT3 it produced 355bhp, 59 horsepower more than in the standard 996, which was delivered to the wheels through a strengthened gearbox boasting interchangeable ratios. To make the GT3 fit for circuit use, the brakes, suspension, and wheels were uprated to cope with the substantial increase in performance, whilst aerodynamic downforce was enhanced by a larger front air dam and a distinctive rear spoiler. Weight reduction extended to the removal of the rear seats and most of the sound deadening, rear speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, though the latter could be ordered as an option, as could a CD/radio. In its original Type 996 incarnation, as seen here, the 911 GT3 was produced up to 2006. Offered from private ownership is this homage to the iconic livery of the German Polizei. Police forces around Europe have famously used performance cars as a way of raising the profile and effectiveness of policing public roads and the Germans were no exception, in fact, their distinctive livery became a 'brand' with both Scalextric and Corgi producing models which sold throughout Europe. This particular, left-hand drive, 996 GT3 was purchased privately and graphics applied together with lights to emulate the famous police 911s. What began as just a bit of fun actually became a tool for a UK Police Force to promote young driver awareness courtesy of the owner at the time. This GT3 has travelled just 74,105km and, should drawing attention to yourself not be 'your thing', then the graphics and lights can easily be removed and the car returned to a very attractive, low mileage Porsche GT3. https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/2000-porsche-911-rec10820-1-nec-1121?pn=0&el=16974&pp=0
