Initially producing agricultural products, the company began working with Land Rover in 1956 to begin producing LR products under license at their facility in Spain. By 1958, the Santana Motor Company was established to build Land Rovers under license in what was known as CKD, or Complete Knocked Down kit form—essentially the parts were shipped from the factory in England, creating a kit, which was assembled in Spain. Interestingly, by 1968, 100% of the vehicle components were produced by Santana, only a few telltale details distinguishing the Spanish-built Land Rovers from their English counterparts, most notably the tailgates. Quality was on par with the British Land Rovers and it wasn’t long before Santana was developing new engines and entire model lines, working closely with Land Rover all the while. To better recognize the efforts, the company changed its name to Land Rover Santana, SA. The company was instrumental in marketing Land Rovers to African and Central and South American customers, further helping the brand establish an international reputation. This 1985 Land Rover Santana Pickup is powered by the 3.5L diesel engine with a 5-speed manual transmission and 4-wheel drive. Power steering and power brakes make the lengthy pickup easier to maneuver and enjoy. Finished in Cream with a white roof, the Santana looks every bit as rugged as it could and hosts the nuances coveted by Santana collectors, such as the grille, tailgate and all the emblems. The black interior is truly an environment of English and Spanish design, blending the more modern seating surfaces and dashboard design with the ruggedness Land Rovers have long been known for. Featuring a CD stereo system and Veglia instruments, the Santana rolls on white-colored steel wheels wrapped with rugged tires. https://www.mecum.com/lots/465368/1985-land-rover-santana-pickup/
