Started in 2013 by Tommy Gelinas, Valley Relics is a non-profit charity that is driven to preserve the history and pop culture of the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. The museum has rescued more than 100 neon signs from Hollywood, Los Angeles and the surrounding area. It also houses a large collection of BMX bikes, vintage cars like the Volkswagen bus driven by Sean Penn in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” and a collection of functioning vintage arcade games. Some of the memorabilia on display dates back to the 1800s and further, such as its prehistoric fossil collection. Once owned by drag racer Milo Coleman, this Torino Cobra Jet has been in the display rotation at the museum since 2020, when it was purchased by Tommy Gelinas in September of that year. Inducted into the Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2018, Coleman’s racing pedigree had him rubbing elbows with the likes of Dick Moroso and Richard Petty. A lifelong Ford disciple, his claim to fame was drag racing a 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt. Ford’s Torino Cobra series was introduced for 1969, and the semi-sloping fastback model inspired the aerodynamic Torino GT Talladega Special. This 1969 Ford Torino Cobra Jet is finished in Meadowlark Yellow over a black vinyl bucket seat interior. The 428 CI 4V Cobra Jet V-8 sends power to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission and a 3.25 Traction-Lok rear axle.
