    Chrysler Imperial CG Roadster, 1931

Chassis No.: CG3715 $176,000 | Sold • Odometer: 6,974 miles • Engine: Inline 8-cylinder • Transmission: Manual • Exterior: Maroon/Red • Interior: Red • Body: Roadster • The chassis originally supported the body of an Imperial Sedan • Restored years ago as an exacting rebody of a LeBaron Roadster by renowned restorer John M. Wheatley • There were only 100 original LeBaron Roadsters produced in 1931 • 148 inch wheelbase • 384 CI straight 8-cylinder engine • 4-speed manual transmission • Hydraulic brakes • Dual side-mounted spares • Rear luggage rack • Fabric cloth top • Rumble seat • Mid-body storage compartment • Chrome bumpers, headlight buckets and grille For those who comprehend the era, the Great Depression’s true classics are understandably rare. In this case, it is the CG platform Chrysler Imperial that turns heads. These second-generation Imperials were built for just three model seasons and became known as Imperial 8s thanks to the debut of the bigger 384 CI (6.3L) inline 8-cylinder engine that year. That first year, only 100 LeBaron-bodied roadsters were produced. The 148-inch chassis used here originally supported the body of an Imperial Sedan, but this vehicle was restored many years ago by renowned expert John M. Wheatley as an exacting rebody of one of those special 1931 LeBaron roadsters. The 384 CI straight 8-cylinder engine represented the reliable efficiency for which Chrysler engineers were known. With a green cylinder block, chrome pushrod cover and generator, cast-iron intake and exhaust manifolding, and single-barrel carburetor design, the 384 CI straight-8 was rated at 125 HP and gave the car the capability of 80 MPH top speeds. Here, it is gorgeously detailed and accompanied by a chrome steering column visible under hood. Behind the engine is a 4-speed manual transmission, and this car features hydraulic brakes as well. The body is done in a gorgeous maroon and red paint layout with copious chrome trim that includes dual side-mounted spares, bumpers, headlight buckets, the grille frame and the running board edging. There is a rear luggage rack, rumble seat, a midbody storage compartment and a split windscreen, and the tan fabric cloth top is a perfect accent for covering the red leather-trimmed bench seat and door panels inside. Accessing the interior through the forward-opening doors reveals a 100 MPH speedometer and associated gauging, a three-spoke steering wheel, dash padding and a floor shifter. Final exterior accents include the cowl lamps, leather belting for the side-mount spare tires, gold-trimmed Imperial and 8 grille identification, chrome exhaust extensions and the gazelle-themed hood ornament. This car rides on classic chrome wire wheels with Imperial-specific center caps and wide whitewall Firestone tires. The LeBaron roadster was a dream car of the 1931 era that most period buyers had little hope of owning. For those who love the styling and opulence, this is a real opportunity. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1122198/1931-chrysler-imperial-cg-roadster/

    Chrysler Imperial Convertible, 1933

Chassis No.: 7531781 • Exterior: Maroon • Body: Convertible • 1 of 5 known to exist • 300 miles since frame-off restoration • Red Head Straight Eight engine • Vee windshield and lamps • Rumble seat • Period ownership photos and documents prior to restoration Chrysler built a solid reputation for power and reliability in international competition before the close of the Roaring Twenties, but by 1931 their designs were falling out of fashion and the company realized change was necessary. That year saw the introduction of what would become one of the greatest classics in Chrysler’s history, the 1931 to ‘33 Custom Imperial. The LeBaron-bodied Imperial was alone in the elegance of its low and rakish design, which in the roadster and phaeton models featured a belt line that sloped gently downward in the rear, which with the top down exposed the upper portion of the seatbacks in a way that defied period convention. Beneath the Imperial’s long hood was Chrysler’s first – and in fact largest – straight-8 flathead engine in two versions, dubbed the “Silver Dome” and “Red Head.” The more powerful Red Head Straight Eight produced 135 HP at 3,200 RPM, enough to haul the Imperial up to almost 90 MPH, and would quietly cruise at 75 MPH. This 1933 Chrysler Imperial convertible is one of a mere five known to exist. Powered by the Red Head Straight Eight engine, this pristine classic is distinguished by its split-V windshield, rumble seat, driving lights and dual side mount spares. Wrapped in glowing two-tone Burgundy paint with Tan interior and top, this precious milestone automobile is offered with period ownership photos and documents from before its restoration. https://www.mecum.com/lots/191311/1933-chrysler-imperial-convertible/

    Chrysler Imperial CG Roadster, 1931

Chassis No.: CG1655 • Exterior: Red • Interior: Tan • Body: Roadster • Original LeBaron body • 1 of an estimated 100 produced in 1931 • Stanford Cup winner at 2012 Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance • Best of show winner at 1994 Chrysler bay area fall classic • First place winner at 1994 Silverado Concours d’Elegance • Second place winner at 1996 & 1997 Silverado Concours d’Elegance • Awards not included • Dark red with beige pinstripe • Restoration by Harry Siemens completed in 1994 • 384/125 HP inline 8-cylinder engine • 4-speed manual transmission • 4-wheel leaf spring suspension • 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes • Beam front axle • Live rear axle • 145 inch wheelbase • Dual front road lamps • Dual side mount spares with accessory mirrors • Dual Klaxons • Draft deflectors • Rear mounted trunk • Chrome wire wheels • Wide Whitewall tires • Modern turn signals • Rebuilt water pump and new brakes The beautiful Imperial line of Chryslers would create defining moments in American automobile production, and this 1931 CG roadster is magnificent by any measurement. Built to compete with the more established luxury brands but featuring Chrysler’s increased understanding of technology, this model year is considered the first of the second-generation Imperial releases, and the car presented here retains its original LeBaron body and is one of an estimated 100 produced in 1931. Its restoration was completed by Harry Siemens in 1994, and it won a number of accolades including a first-place award at the 1994 Silverado Concours d'Elegance. One major Imperial component that year was the new inline 8-cylinder engine, whose 384 CI displacement created enough power to propel this vehicle to speeds in excess of 90 MPH. Chrysler’s engineering developers selected the 4-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel leaf-spring suspension and 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Riding on a 145-inch wheelbase, it utilizes a beam front axle and live rear axle. Marketed toward an exclusive clientele, this roadster is painted in a sportsman-like dark red with beige pinstripe and features the long-hood styling that denotes the true classics of this era. This look includes dual front road lamps, dual side-mount spares equipped with accessory mirrors, and dual Klaxon horns. There are draft deflectors and a rear-mounted trunk, with the upgrade of more modern turn signals. A rebuilt water pump and new brakes has been installed as well. Finally, this CG roadster rides on chrome wire wheels with wide whitewall tires. The Best of Show winner at a Chrysler-oriented Bay Area Fall Classic event and second-place finishes at both the 1996 and 1997 Silverado Concours d'Elegance, its most recent honor came as the Stanford Cup winner at the 2012 Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance. https://www.mecum.com/lots/336615/1931-chrysler-imperial-cg-roadster/
