Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti DTM Competition Saloon, 1995
Chassis No.: SE062-004 €552,000 EUR | Sold • Alfa Corse works entry • Driven by Alessandro Nannini • In-period competition history • Present ownership since 2014 • Offered from an important European private collection This impressive bag of European touring car titles speaks to the astounding technical capabilities of Alfa Corse's 155 development programme. An example of the final iteration of the model, formally known as the 155 V6 Ti DTM, is offered here. Each 155 touring car produced by Alfa Corse was constructed around a steel tube frame and a reinforced carbon-fibre safety cell, which was wrapped in thinner-than- stock steel. The bodywork was effectively a cosmetic shell wrapped around the extremely rigid crash structure. The 155 V6 Ti DTM retained many of the mechanical features that its predecessors used in previous iterations of the DTM/ITC (International Touring Car) racers. An adjustable, F1-derived inboard suspension system and massive ventilated brakes were retained from 1995, though there was a new paddle-operated, six-speed semi-sequential transaxle sourced from Xtrac. Meanwhile, safety features required by the ITC included ABS, traction control, and four-wheel drive. However, the V6 Ti ITC received a major step forward in the form of a new engine featuring a redesigned lightweight cylinder block, 90-degree geometry, pneumatic valves, and greatly improved performance. This engine, internally called the '690RC', redlined at an astonishing 11,900 rpm and reportedly developed a reported 490 horsepower. The dash to 100 km/h was accomplished in a mere 2.5 seconds and the 155 V6 Ti DTM could exceed 300km/h (186mph) on the straights. It should be noted that some of the technology used in this car exceeded the level of Formula 1 cars of its time. This car, with the serial number 'SE062-004', was built in the 1995 season of the DTM series for the factory driver Alessandro Nannini, as stated in an internal letter from Alfa Corse dated 9th January 1995, which may be found in the car's archived documentation. Boasting Alfa Corse-Martini works livery, '004' was driven by Nannini in the DTM in 1995 carrying competitor number '7'. The season was marked by a combination of evident pace and persistent misfortune. Nannini demonstrated his competitiveness with two podium finishes, both 3rd places, achieved at the high-speed circuits of Avus and the Norisring. He further underlined the car's potential with a strong 4th at Diepholz Airfield Circuit, together with additional top-five results throughout the season. Despite these highlights, the campaign was significantly affected by numerous retirements, which ultimately limited the conversion of performance into championship points. At the conclusion of the season, Nannini was classified 11th overall, an outcome that does not fully reflect the pace and potential shown on track. In retrospect, the 1995 season stands as one of contrasts: whenever car number '7' reached the finish, it was often in contention at the front, yet a lack of reliability prevented a stronger championship result. This unique Alfa Romeo 155 DTM entered the vendor's important European private collection in March 2014 after its purchase from Dal Degan Loris, who had raced the car regularly until it was sold. This car is unique, because it meets the period specifications perfectly and is entirely complete, including all the original ECUs, and in a state where it can be raced, unlike other survivors which are rarely in their original condition or even driveable. The vendor is highly appreciative of his collection's DTM Alfa Romeo, which he drove at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2019. With its outstanding pedigree, this factory 155 V6 Ti is part of Alfa Romeo's DTM history: truly a touring car legend worthy of inclusion in any private collection with a focus on motor sports.

Alfa Romeo 155 D2 Competition Saloon, 1996
Chassis No.: 044 Engine No.: D2125 Estimate: €200,000 - €240,000 EUR • 320bhp six-speed D2 version • Raced by the factory-supported JAS Motorsport Alfa Corse • Offered with Wagenpass (logbook) and Abarth Heritage Certificate • Requires re-commissioning • Versione D2 con cambio 6 marce e 320 cv • Usata per le gare da JAS Motorsport Alfa Corse con supporto ufficiale • Offerta con Wagenpass (passaporto) e Certificato Abarth Heritage The Alfa Romeo 155 saloon was unveiled in January 1992 at Barcelona, with the public launch at the Geneva Motor Show two months later. The 155 in its various forms would prove to be immensely successful in touring car racing across Europe, winning the Italian Superturismo Championship and German DTM Championship (both with Nicola Larini at the wheel); the Spanish Touring Car Championship (with Adrián Campos); and the British Touring Car Championship (with Gabriele Tarquini). Its Tipo 156 replacement would prove equally competitive. The Alfa Romeo 155 offered here is an example of the 320bhp, six-speed D2 version, this particular car having been driven by the Italian star Stefano Modena during the 1996 season. Born in his namesake city of Modena in 1961, Stefano started racing karts and worked his way up through the junior formulae before landing a drive with Brabham for the final Formula 1 race of 1987. His best season in F1 was 1991, when he finished 8th overall in the World Championship, and after another disappointing year he quit to concentrate on racing in the Italian Superturismo Championship. Towards the end of the 1994 season Stefano joined Alfa Corse, winning his first two races in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (at Avus) at the wheel of a 155. He followed that up with a brace of 2nd places at the next round at the Allemannenring, and ended the year in 12th place in the Championship despite having contested only three rounds. Remaining with Alfa Romeo as part of Euroteam, he raced in the International Touring and DTM championships in 1995, finishing 7th and 16th respectively, before joining the factory-supported JAS Motorsport Alfa Corse team for 1996. JAS Motorsport was contesting the International Touring Car Championship, and at the season's end Stefano finished in 12th place overall having been on the podium three times. This ex-Modena Alfa Romeo 155 D2 is offered with a Wagenpass (logbook) and an Abarth Heritage Certificate. Re-commissioning will be required before the car returns to the racetrack. https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/28272/lot/61/1996-alfa-romeo-155-d2-competition-saloon-chassis-no-044-engine-no-d2125/
