My name is Jaber, I've lived in Dubai for 9 years. Work in Deira, live in Marina. Drive through traffic daily and park in shopping malls. Bought a Fortuner VXR six months ago. Done 8,000 km. Sharing how the car handles city driving.
Is it easy to park the Fortuner in tight Dubai parking lots?
Not easy. The car is big. In Deira and older areas, it takes extra effort. Parking sensors and cameras help but don't add much confidence. In Mall of Emirates and Dubai Mall — fine, spaces are wide. Underground parking in Marina — tougher.
How is visibility — are there blind spots?
Visibility is good. You sit high — you see far. Mirrors are large, blind spots are minimal. But the front pillars are wide — you need to move your head when turning corners. Overall — fine.
Is the turning radius a problem in narrow streets?
The radius is big. In Deira's narrow streets, turning around is tough. Takes three or four moves. You feel it in parking lots too. This is not a small crossover.
Does the car scrape on parking ramp in shopping malls?
No scraping. Ground clearance is high. Driven up all ramps in Dubai — never scraped. No worries. Even on steep entrances — no problems.
Is it easy to climb curbs — for parking near the mosque?
Very easy. High clearance allows it. No issues at all. One of the main city advantages. No need to find a spot with a low curb — just drive up where it's convenient.
In the city — bearable. Parking is tough but you get used to it. Visibility is good. Curbs — no problem. Turning radius is big.
