One of five cars built in the early 1990s for the customer racing program put together by Bob Snodgrass and Worldcom/MCI for HSR racing, this 1971 Porsche 914-6 presents in the same livery as the legendary No. 59 Brumos car driven by Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood that captured the 1971 IMSA GT Championship in the GTU class. Specially prepared by the Brumos race shop to full competition specifications, this car was built for John Hayt, who drove the car from inception until the late 1990s, when the series ended. The car has been recently restored by the 901 Shop, marque experts in competition Porsches.

The high-performance 1991cc horizontally opposed flat-6 engine utilizes an aluminum 901 block with a Porsche 66mm stroke crankshaft, CP-Carrillo forged pistons, Mahle cylinders and Pauter 130mm connecting rods. Additional engine cooling is provided by both the front-mounted oil cooler residing behind the front bumper/lower valence, as well as the enlarged mesh screen area on the engine lid. It features a 901-derived 5-speed manual transmission, meaning it’s the only one of the five cars not fitted with a Hewland gearbox.

The car is equipped with mandatory racing safety equipment, such as an integrated roll cage, racing seat, racing safety belts, fuel cell and an exterior electrical cut off switch. The body has the period-correct fender flares to accommodate the wider Hoosier racing tires mounted on racing wheels. The high level of professionalism and preparation of the Brumos team is best exemplified by the finishing record of the 1971 Gregg/Haywood 914-6 that earned first place at five out of the six races it entered. This 914-6’s most recent victory was a class win at the 2018 Monterey Historics, where it was driven by Jack Baldwin.
