The Porsche 912E (the E standing for “Einspritzung,” the German word for fuel injection) was produced only in 1976 for the American market. Only 2,099 were built, making surviving examples quite rare. As the “entry level Porsche” it came equipped not with the usual flat-6 engine but rather a 2.0 L/86 HP 4-cylinder Volkswagen powerplant refined with new Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. The rest of the car was pure Porsche, as embodied in this incredibly original Guards Red coupe, whose remarkable condition can be attributed to its low 41,000 miles and a lifetime of careful maintenance.
