Built in the final year of production for what would become known as the “long hood” 911, this 1973 Porsche 911S Targa was sold new in Indianapolis and has a history of just two owners. By 1973 the 911S had benefited from eight years of development both on and off the track, and was both a great touring car and a formidable sports racer. This 911S Targa is an excellent example retaining its original matching numbers 2.4L/180 HP flat-6 engine and heavy duty Type 915 5-speed manual transaxle, which is also original. A solid specimen with a rust free body and chassis, it was recently treated to a bare-metal repaint in classic Metallic Silver.
AutoBahn Interiors in San Diego, California were called upon to provide new Black leather front seat covers and restore the original removable roof panel, while the original vinyl-covered rear seats remain in very good unrestored condition. The original front seat covers are included in the sale. Easily identified as a 1973 model by its front spoiler and Black plastic running light surrounds, the car rides on new reproduction Michelin 185/70VR15 XWX tires on the original Fuchs forged alloy 5-spoke wheels. Optional extras include the original Blaupunkt radio and, most significantly, rare option code G03; which includes factory air conditioning, leather front seats and chrome wheel arch trim.
This very desirable 911S Targa shows just over 70,000 actual miles on the odometer, is documented with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and comes with a reproduction owner’s manual and pouch, jack and partial tool kit and extensive receipts from recently performed work.
