153 bhp, 2,195 cc air-cooled flat six-cylinder engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission, front and rear independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 2,268 mm

Moteur six-cylindres à plat refroidi par air, 2 195 cm3, 153 ch, injection mécanique Bosch, boîte manuelle cinq rapports, quatre roues indépendantes, freins à disques sur les quatre roues. Empattement: 2 268mm.

The early 1970s are viewed by many as delivering the best and most exciting Porsche 911s that the company had produced to date. Porsche had lengthened the 911’s wheelbase by 57 millimetres to 2,268 millimetres, resulting in improved handling and more interior space. It also enlarged the rather peaky original 2.0-litre, single overhead-cam engine to 2.2 litres by increasing the cylinder bore to 84 millimetres, which was the first in a series of regular 200-cubic centimetre displacement increases. There were also larger intake and exhaust valves, oil squirters were added in the crankcase to better cool the pistons, and a larger 225-millimetre clutch package was also added to handle the increased horsepower and torque.

For the 1971 model year, three-speed windscreen wipers were added and the fuel pump was relocated to the front of the car. Fuchs aluminium alloy wheels were standard equipment on the E. The Targa model, initially introduced with a soft, zip-out plastic rear window, was upgraded with an optional large, curved window and an electrically heated back light from the 1968 model; this became a standard fitment the following year. The 911 E in this form was capable of almost 225 km/h, and it offered excellent handling to match its impressive over-the-road speed.

Although little is known of the early history of this D-series Porsche 911 E Targa, it is currently finished in a Pearl White, and according to factory records, it originally left the factory painted in 221 Light Metallic Green with a tan leatherette interior and its requisite black removable soft top panel. The consignor states that this car was fitted with the very desirable Recaro-made leather sport seat option, which offers deeper bolsters on the backrest and bottom cushions for both driver and passenger comfort during enthusiastic driving. Additionally, it includes side mouldings and German-language instrumentation. The consignor also notes that the engine has been fitted with a factory-installed catalytic converter.

Several tasteful cosmetic upgrades have been made to this car, including headlamp rings and twin after-market outside mirrors, which are all painted to match the body colour. This 911 E Targa is attractive and lightweight, and it offers both weather-tight and open-air cruising enjoyment in a very fast, technically sophisticated package.
