In the decade following the end of the Second World War, Oldsmobile provided the burgeoning American middle class with automobiles that were faster, more luxurious, and more graceful than many of its competitors. Oldsmobile cemented itself as one of the preeminent manufactures of the period by offering powerful V-8 engines and standard features that were otherwise optional on competitor’s cars.
With more than 384,390 cars sold that year and a handful of NASCAR wins by the legendary Petty family, it was clear that the 1957 Oldsmobiles were a force to be reckoned with both on the race track and the showroom floor.
This Oldsmobile was the subject of a no-expense-spared restoration which netted the Award for Timeless Elegance at the prestigious 2010 Greenwich Concours. It is presented in the elegant and correct for 1957 Allegheny Green finish, striking white convertible top, and tri-tone leather upholstery based on patterns made from a complete set of original factory upholstery. With factory-correct power steering, power windows, power front seat, power top, clock, and AM radio, this Oldsmobile is as comfortable as it is stylish.
The Starfire is in pristine condition, having been restored to factory standards and lovingly maintained since the restoration was completed. Included with the sale is a bale of restoration receipts which document the more than $200,000 spent. The owner reports that the car has made a recent 250-mile shakedown cruise, during which the car performed flawlessly.
