The R34 series Nissan Skyline GT-R has long been regarded as a high-water mark in the model’s history. Never officially released in the U.S., its legendary performance status has earned it the name “Godzilla” for a number of good reasons. With Nissan test driver Kazuo Shimizu at the wheel, the R34 set a lap time at the Nürburgring circuit of 7 minutes, 52 seconds, breaking the Skyline GT-R R33’s record, which was the fastest production vehicle around the track at the time. Skyline GT-Rs are highly exclusive and highly sought after, especially by fans of cars hailing from the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM).
Taking the R34 exclusivity to another level in 2001, Nissan introduced the M-Spec, which was based on the earlier R34 V-Spec II. The M stood for Kazutoshi Mizuno, the chief engineer behind the GT-R. This was followed in 2002 by the R34 GT-R V Spec II Nür and the GT-R M-Spec Nür. The Nür was meant to celebrate the Nürburgring, and the entire Nür program was meant to celebrate the end of the line for the R34. In all, just 1,003 R34 GT-R Nür were built: 718 V-Spec II Nür and 285 M-Spec Nür.
A number of details separated the Nür models from standard GT-Rs, most notably the special-edition RB26DETT engine that was based on the N1 racing engine and received larger twin turbochargers with steel turbine blades instead of ceramic. Nür GT-Rs also received gold stitching on the upholstery, a 300 KPH speedometer, gold valve covers and a gold VIN plate. While advertised as having 276 HP, most agree 330 was closer to the real number. One of a mere 24 finished in black, this GT-R M-Spec Nür was imported into the United States from Japan in April 2023.
Fitted with the Nür-spec twin-turbocharged 2.6L RB26DETT inline 6-cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual transmission, this Nür retains its original paint and Nür aluminum hood. Street legal in the U.S., the GT-R is fitted with a hand-stitched black leather interior with gold stitching, heated sport seats, air conditioning, an AM/FM/Cassette/CD stereo system and instrumentation among other amenities.
