Developed with Cosworth for homologation, the 190E 2.3-16 became a performance icon of the 1980s. Its twin-cam, 16-valve four-cylinder produced around 185bhp through a Getrag dog-leg five-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential, complemented by a purposeful aerodynamic body kit. Proven on track, it gained fame at the Nürburgring ‘Race of Champions’ in 1984, while in 1983 three near-production examples set endurance records at Nardò, covering 50,000km non-stop at almost 250km/h.
First registered in October 1985, this car was acquired by its long-term previous keeper in July 1989, who retained it until 2024. Its careful ownership is supported by outstanding provenance, including the original pre-delivery inspection sheet, factory sales literature and a stamped service book with 17 Mercedes-Benz dealer entries, 14 from the same Leeds dealer.
Recently recommissioned, the car benefits from a complete suspension overhaul with KW V3 adjustable coilovers, a professionally refurbished differential and a major service in 2025. Finished in striking Blue Black metallic with chequered cloth interior, factory-fitted sunroof and refurbished alloys, it is offered with its original book pack, two keys, V5C registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate, a rare opportunity to acquire a well-preserved Cosworth classic.
