Launched at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, the McLaren 720S was the second of McLaren’s planned Super Series of 15 new hypercars and the successor to the superb 650S. Its sleek lines and predatory appearance were, according to McLaren, inspired by the world’s most efficient hunting machine, the great white shark. This 2019 McLaren 720 Performance Coupe’s radical performance begins with its innovative carbon fiber Monocage II passenger capsule, a high-strength, lightweight ultra-rigid structure designed for maximum safety and outstanding chassis dynamics.
Its M840T 4.0L/710 HP twin-turbocharged V-8 engine generates the 720 PS (710 HP) that inspired the 720S designation, driving through an advanced 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with manual shifting mode. The result: a breathtaking top speed of 212 MPH at 7,000 RPM. The 720S is sculpted to adroitly manage air flow through and around the body, its naturally aerodynamic teardrop shape terminating in a carbon fiber active rear spoiler with airbrake functionality above centrally exiting dual exhaust.
Designed to optimize the twin-turbo V-8’s tremendous output, McLaren’s Proactive Chassis Control System II combines with a suite of features that includes launch control, McLaren Adaptive Damping with Comfort, Sport and Track modes, carbon ceramic disc brakes with ABS and orange calipers and Pirelli P Zero tires on 10-spoke silver alloy wheels.
