Lincoln employed the 123-inch wheelbase for the last time on the suicide-door Continentals in 1965, with 1966 ushering in a 126-inch wheelbase and pushing the overall length from 216.3 inches to 220.9 inches. The move, while creating an impressive overall curb stature, arguably did away with an understated elegance the Continental became noted for. Depending on one’s preference, that could make this fully customized 1965 Continental all the more appealing.
The Grigio Scuro paint presents beautifully and lends a stunning contrast to the customized red leather interior, which is fitted with front and rear custom center consoles, a custom stereo system, quilted-stitch upholstery with Lincoln embroidery, Restomod air conditioning and more. Backing the blacked-out, fuel-injected 6.2L/525 HP Chevrolet Performance LS3 V-8 crate engine, a Stage 3 4L65E automatic transmission is built with a billet input shaft drum and an upgraded clutch package with a 2200 stall converter, allowing it to accommodate up to 1,000 HP.
Fuel is fed to the engine with a high-performance Holley 340 LPH electric fuel pump (Part No. 19-340) mounted in a custom-made fuel tank that’s been crafted of 5051 aluminum. The engine bay features a custom billet radiator, firewall and bulkhead for a remarkably unique look. The body is set upon a chassis that’s been customized with an air suspension comprised of an AccuAir Ultimate air suspension management package, an Airlift Performance 3P ride height controller, a second compressor harness kit for 3P/H systems, two 5-gallon polished aluminum air tanks, a Viair 485 dual compressor Platinum Kit and more.
Prepping the suspension, a complete set of upper and lower control arms were installed, along with a set of bushings and bearings, and airbag-mounted shocks. All in, the chassis was engineered to maintain a low stance without extensive modifications. Braking is provided by a Hydro booster, a Wilwood master cylinder and 14-inch rotors with red calipers. Redline Diamondback Classic 22-inch custom tires on 22-inch custom AG luxury wheels round out the classically modern look.
