Addendum

Please note that due to California emissions, this vehicle must be sold to a dealer or out-of-state resident.

The Lexus LFA came about as the pet project of Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, who after years of producing relatively anodyne road cars, wanted to build a supercar to challenge those being offered by the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The project’s development phase became excruciatingly lengthy, but when it was finally unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, it was immediately clear that the marque had produced something truly remarkable.

With Yamaha at the helm for co-development, the star of the show was its 4.8-liter V-10 engine, built in the same facility as Toyota Racing’s F1 V-10s. Its internals were comprised of advanced material components including aluminum, magnesium, and solid titanium, which made it smaller than an equivalent V-8 and lighter than an equivalent V-6. In addition, the use of a V-10 allowed for razor-sharp throttle response, where a rev from idle to 9,000 rpm happened in just six-tenths of a second. This miraculous powerplant is mated to a lightning-quick six-speed automated sequential manual transmission. Combined, they work together to create an exhaust note that is unrivaled among modern supercars, undoubtedly worth the price of admission.

However, its howling V-10 was not its only astonishing achievement. Construction was comprised of an in-house designed and manufactured carbon fiber-reinforced polymer frame coupled with aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloys. The result was a curb weight of just over 3,200 pounds with a near-perfect weight distribution of 48:52. The 500-example production run lasted from late 2010 to 2012, with all examples labeled as 2012 products; overall, 436 “standard” LFA’s were produced in conjunction to 64 “Nürburgring Package” examples.

Offered here is LFA serial number 188, sold new via Lexus of Westminster in California. It is believed to be one of approximately 27 US-market non-Nürburgring Package cars finished in Whitest White, accented by dark premium alloy wheels and matching red carbon-ceramic brake calipers. The interior is entirely bespoke, specified with black leather for the upper dashboard and contrasting red leather for the door cards, instrument panel, center console, and lower dashboard areas. Meanwhile, the steering wheel and seats are trimmed in white, nicely matching the Whitest White exterior. To tie it together, high-gloss carbon fiber and anodized titanium trim compliment the well-coordinated color scheme.

Upon delivery, the LFA is said to have been stored within a climate-controlled garage in Southern California. Kept in showroom condition throughout its lifetime, the car has been driven only 47 miles as of cataloguing time and the delivery wrapping is still present on the steering wheel and seats.

The painstaking engineering, development, and design of the LFA have lasted the test of time, as its modern classic status has been quickly affirmed by its magnetism and collectability. Likely one of the lowest mileage “standard” LFAs to come to market, this stellar example is ready for its next chapter
