Although mechanically similar to the Fulvia saloon, the beautiful 2+2 coupé launched in 1965, had all the visual presence its progenitor lacked and came with a 1216cc engine producing 80bhp. Tuned, lightweight 'HF' versions provided increased performance and formed the basis of the works' highly successful rallying programme that saw, with the exception of 1970, the Fulvia HF’s winning the Italian Rally Championship every year from 1965 to 1973 and two European Rally Championships in 1969 and 1973. The Fulvia HF1600 secured Lancia's first Manufacturer's World Championship in 1972.
The ultimate expression of the Fulvia coupé, the HF1600 had been introduced in 1969 and came with a 1584cc engine producing 115bhp in road tune, an output sufficient for a top speed of 115mph, plus revised suspension and a five-speed gearbox.
Originally registered on 8th September 1975 this lefthand drive Lancia is in fast road specification and presents in good order. The car comes with a good history prior to leaving Italy in 2014, including a gearbox rebuild, it is thought the 1298cc engine has also been rebuilt although unfortunately we have no documentation to support this. Upon its arrival in the UK the brakes were rebuilt, and braided hoses fitted. In 2017 new carpets and door cards were fitted, rally seats with three-point harness seatbelts enhance the aesthetics of the interior.
Later that year Cromadora style wheels shod with Pirelli P4 tyres were fitted on all five wheels and in 2018 the blue and yellow paintwork was refreshed, a Group 4 exhaust system is also fitted. The result of this significant time and investment is a Fulvia 1.3S that is a highly useable example, looks stunning and is great fun to drive.
