For the fans of 1960s auto racing, the Ford GT40 is considered to have been the ultimate evolution for Ford, blending aerodynamic styling with stellar on-track performance. Reliving that era is possible with this Superformance 1965 Ford GT40 MkII replica. This freshly built example of the Blue Oval legend shows only 300 test miles. Indeed, the effort was made to make this an accurate rendering of the original GT40, which finished 1-2-3 at Le Mans in 1966 while beating Ferrari in its own backyard.
Starting with the original-style steel monocoque chassis, this continuation is so accurate that more than 2/3s of the rolling chassis parts are interchangeable with the original examples, and the company states it not only carries the legal name GT40 forward, but its GT40/P chassis numbers make it eligible for the official GT40 registry. This GT40 is powered by the mid-mounted 427 CI Ford Racing engine with 600 HP and the Borla stacked injection that resembles the Weber carburetors from back in the day. Polished exhaust exits from the rear, while the detailed engine is readily visible beneath the rear window with a 5-speed manual transmission mounted to it.
This car is equipped with independent front and rear suspension parts and Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes for active driving enjoyment. A show-quality Navy Blue PPG paint job is enhanced with Gulf Orange accents and mask paint, with racing graphics added for good measure. Nonetheless, a high-capacity air-conditioning layout makes this GT40 enjoyable even when not rounding corners, while other interior appointments include Smiths instruments in a surround-fitted dash, short-throw floor shifter and custom carpet, door panels and steering wheel featuring GT40 logos. The crowing touch is Gulf Orange-painted knock-off wheels with spinner hubs and radial blackwall rubber for a sinister look.
This is a wonderful example of a continuation model built by a noteworthy company.
