The Fiat 500 was produced by Fiat S.p.A (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) between 1957 and 1975, limited production of the Fiat 500 K estate continued until 1977. The car was designed by Dante Giacosa, and despite its diminutive size, the '500' proved to be an enormously practical and popular vehicle throughout Europe. It captured the hearts and minds of the public until production ended in 1975.

Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957 it was marketed as a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 3 metres long, and originally powered by a tiny 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term "small car" and it is considered to be one of the first 'city cars'. The 'L' or Lusso penultimate model, like the car offered here today, was produced between 1968 and 1972. It featured a much modernised interior including a renewed dashboard which brought the Fiat 500 up to date. Greater comfort and style were provided in this new model for a new generation.

This original right-hand drive Fiat 500 L was first registered on 20th August 1971 in Warwickshire and has covered what is believed to be a genuine 13,000 miles from new. There have been no engine or gearbox modifications and the car has been restored to its standard specification by the current owner. This was carried out in 2010 and included stripping the entire car and replacing any part that required attention. Consequently there is a large list of new parts, along with details of all the mechanical work carried out.

DUE662K has the added bonus of being formerly owned by the Prime Minister, David Cameron. The car was bought as a surprise birthday present for his wife Samantha and they covered approximately 1,000 miles in their ten years of ownership. There is supporting paperwork confirming Mr Cameron's ownership, including a signed letter from him on House of Commons headed paper.

The vendor reports that mechanically the car is very reliable,it has never broken down and the bodywork and interior are also in extremely good condition. Undoubtedly, this cheeky little Fiat will provide many years of happy motoring for its next owner, whilst offering a genuine investment for the future due to its famous history.
