Having defined the Italian Gran Turismo with the famed 250 lineage, Ferrari has always maintained its authorship by occasionally refreshing the concept with such classics as the elegant 275 GTB and the lovely and powerful Daytona. Most recently, that came in the form of the distinctive Roma, a car Ferrari explicitly states was designed to evoke “the carefree, pleasurable way of life that characterized Rome in the 1950s and 1960s.” The marvelous 2024 Ferrari Roma coupe offered here certainly accomplishes that purpose, wrapping proven Ferrari performance hardware in some of the most cleanly sculpted coachwork in recent memory.
As always, the drivetrain is central to this Ferrari’s character, matching its twin-turbocharged, 3.9L/612 HP flat-plane crank V-8 engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle and the sophisticated E-DIFF 3 with Slip Angle Control (SSC) 6.0. Riding on Michelin tires on 20-inch alloy wheels, the Roma delivers superb handling and braking with input from programmable Magneride dual-mode suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes with gold-painted calipers.
Special-order Verde Medio Metallic paint adorns the Roma’s sensual exterior, which is minimally embellished with Scuderia Ferrari fender shields, LED linear headlamps, black ceramic exhaust outlets and a cleverly integrated automatic rear spoiler. The interior design is dictated by Ferrari’s Human Machine Interface, which, as the term suggests, defines the interaction between occupants and the automobile.
The heated steering wheel incorporates a plethora of controls allowing the driver to maintain road focus during operations, including a 5-position Manettino switch, shift paddles and the Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Cross Traffic Alert, and automatic mirror of the ADAS Full Package. Upholstered in tan over black leather, the form-fitting Sport bucket seats feature Prancing Horse headrest embroidery and are fully adjustable through side-mounted electric controls and interactive dash readouts.
