Few classic vintage Ferraris have inflamed the passions like the 365 GTB/4, known far and wide simply as the Daytona. Conceived at a time when pretenders and contenders alike were joining the rush to produce the newest midengined exotic, the Daytona was an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, design that took the front-engined V-12 Berlinetta concept to new heights of performance, and that’s to say nothing of establishing a new standard for sheer beauty. Based on Ferrari’s traditional welded oval-section tube frame with all-independent suspension, the Daytona bore a wider track and vented power 4-wheel disc brakes for improved high-speed performance.

Its 4.4L V-12 employed four overhead cams, dry-sump lubrication and six Weber downdraft carburetors, delivering 352 HP at a searing 7,500 RPM through its gate-shifted 5-speed manual gearbox. What truly set the Daytona above the rest was its appearance. Designed by Pininfarina Stylist Leonardo Fioravanti, it dispensed with the pronounced fenders and single covered headlamps that characterized earlier Ferraris, blending the hood and fenders into a single surface flowing smoothly back from a knife-edged front end treatment containing quad headlamps under a full-width plastic band.

The roofline defining the expanded greenhouse flowed back to a Kamm-style tail featuring quad round tail lights, and subtle fender flares and a single body-side character line on either side added further refinement to a thoroughly stunning overall design. Serial No. 15717, this gorgeous 1972 example presents with a matching-numbers drivetrain and Ferrari Classiche Certification. One of only 1,383 produced during the Daytona’s brief six-year production run, this car was completed in October 1972 as assembly sequence 908, a U.S.-specification car delivered to William Harrah's West Coast dealership, Modern Classics of Reno, Nevada.

Finished in correct Argento Metallizzato with a Nero leather interior, this example received a mechanical servicing at a Ferrari dealership in 2016, representing an investment of approximately $20,000. Equipped with air conditioning, power windows, Becker Europa AM/FM radio, Ansa exhaust and Borrani chromed wire wheels, this Classiche-certified 365 GTB/4 is offered with Classiche documentation, books, tools and a Marcel Massini report.
