Introduced in 1954, the Dodge C series pickup replaced the B series and brought with it a clean break from the older architecture which largely dated to before World War II. The new pickups featured “Pilothouse” styling, which was a way of giving passengers a slightly elevated seating position and a larger amount of glass, allowing for exceptional visibility. Interestingly, however, the C series sat fairly close to the ground, thanks in part to a single-piece floor pan and a revised chassis and suspension. This was done to allow easier passenger ingress-egress and cargo loading-unloading.
While an inline 6-cylinder engine was standard, V-8 options were available, as was an automatic transmission. In 1960, the C series would segue to the new D series that went on sale for 1961; despite a relatively short production span, the C series was an important part of truck history, showing vast improvements in engineering and design. An absolute trip to another time, this 1955 Dodge Pickup presents with irresistible charm in its two-tone teal and white exterior with “Scottsale Dodge” door graphics and side boards promoting “Authorized Sales & Service” with a four-digit phone number.
Powered by a V-8 engine and a column-shifted manual transmission, the body is fitted with a side-mounted spare tire, running boards and an absolute bare minimum of brightwork. The rear bumper is deleted, and the front bumper is painted black along with the driver’s sideview mirror and other elements, while the grille is painted white along with the hubcaps and Dodge branding on the tailgate. The bed floor is comprised of wood slats that match the side boards, and black bed strips. The teal paint extends to the interior of the truck and is accentuated by gray upholstered bench seats and door panels. The interior also features rubber floor mats, VDO gauges and a pushbutton radio.
Wide whitewall tires and a custom-made Huffy bike strapped in the truckbed round out this trip to another time.
