The year 1958 marked the last year before Harley Earl went over the top with Cadillac tail fins. More elegant and subdued, the 1958 tail fins carry the horizontal bodyline as the trunk deck begins to slope down, creating a sense of motion, careful aim, and elegance. Supreme among the chrome monsters of the 1950s was the 1958 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. Its ferocity was more than suggested by the styling—under its solid steel hood was Cadillac’s 365-cubic inch engine, producing 335 horsepower and topped with three 2-barrel carburetors. The interior was on par with any luxury car of the era.
It had the finest materials, and the lengthy list of options included every comfort and convenience feature Cadillac could conceive, ensuring that driver and passengers enjoyed a top-of-the-line motoring experience. The Eldorado Biarritz’s combination of power and presence has arguably never been repeated in such spectacular fashion.
The pristine example we have the pleasure of offering here is finished in the understated yet attractive Olympic White and is complemented by the very desirable silver Sabre wheels riding on white whitewalls. The aforementioned luxurious interior is trimmed in two-tone grey and silver leather and shows only minor wear on the driver’s seat. Though the car displays an older body-off restoration, it remains virtually immaculate throughout. The very correct engine and bay, as well as the thoroughly detailed underside, are all nicely presented and indicative of the care and preservation this example has received since the restoration. The trunk remains equally clean and correctly finished in grey plaid vinyl matting and has a spare Sabre wheel.
Options on this example include power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, and the new GuideMatic headlight dimmer, which replaced the previously named Autronic Eye. Interior creature comforts, aside from the desirable air conditioning, include an AM signal-seeking radio, a six-way power seat, a power top, and power windows. Also included are a day/night mirror, rear seat speaker, power antenna, clock, and parade boot.
Additionally, it is important to note that this was restored from a very solid and original example. Overall, this is a very beautifully presented example that its new owner will be proud to drive and display immediately rather than enduring the expensive and lengthy process of an arduous restoration.
