One of just 99 examples and with a mere 67 miles, this 2023 BMW 8 X Jeff Koons Special Edition carries on the tradition of BMW’s unique Art Cars, a series that began with the 1975 3.0 CSL painted by American artist Alexander Calder for prominent French impresario Hervé Poulain’s entry into the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Originally produced with an MSRP of $350,995, it represents an investment of more than 200 hours of manual work to each car’s exterior alone by highly specialized professionals at BMW to realize Koons’ design, which evokes comic book superheroes-based graphic elements through a hand-painted design combining 11 different exterior colors that highlights the car’s contours to brilliant effect and recalls Koons’ M3 GT2 Art Car that raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2010. The canvas for this exclusive creation is an automotive work of art all its own: the 2023 BMW M850i coupe, BMW’s advanced luxury grand-touring masterpiece.
The M850i boasts BMW’s superb 4.4L/523 HP twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, an 8-speed M Sport automatic transmission and all-wheel drive enhanced by the addition of the Driving Assistance Pro Package, M Sport limited-slip differential and the Adaptive M Suspension Pro. BMW’s Extended Shadowline trim appearance package leads the roster of exterior highlights that includes M-spec alloy wheels over red brake calipers and Icon adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight.
The M850i is loaded with luxury and advanced-tech interior features, including Comfort Access keyless entry, multifunctional seats, four-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an Anthracite Alcantara headliner and wireless charging. Koons also added his artist’s touch inside with custom red and blue leather upholstery, custom glass controls and “THE 8 X JEFF KOONS” console badging.
