At the 2006 Paris Motor Show, venerable German manufacturer Audi debuted what would become its first supercar, the R8. Designed and constructed by Audi’s high-performance subsidiary, Audi Sport GmbH, the new R8 featured an aluminum monocoque similar in design to that of sister company’s Lamborghini Gallardo. Sitting perched behind the driver in themed-engine position is a longitudinally mounted 4.2L, 32-valve, all-aluminum V-8 engine with FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) that produces 414 HP and 317 lb-ft of torque. All this potent power is then fed through either a manual or 6-speed R Tronic automated manual transmission to Audi’s famed Quattro 4-wheel drive system.
With 70% of its motive force directed to the rear and 30% to the front, the R8 is capable of a 0-60 MPH time of just 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 187 MPH. At the time, 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx called the R8, “The best handling road car today.” The example on offer is a 2012 Audi R8 Coupe finished in lustrous red with black carbon fiber accents over a black leather interior.
