First fitted to U.S. market 1969 GTV 1750's, Alfa subsidiary SPICA's mechanical injection required less frequent tuning than the Weber carbs fitted to European spec cars, and initially offered a substantial bump in power to boot, though by 1971 the playing field was leveled at about 130 hp for both carbureted and injected GTV 2000's. SPICA was only ever fitted to cars bound for North America.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
From the tail-end of production comes this lovely U.S. spec 1974 GTV 2000 wearing correct and highly desirable factory colors and retaining its matching-numbers engine and gearbox. The car presents beautifully throughout, and currently displays fewer than 24,000 miles on the odometer.
Distinguishing features include a truly lovely shade of factory blue, well-chosen 15" Minilite-style Rota wheels, and an 'INIEZIONE' trunk lid badge identifying the car as a U.S. spec model featuring SPICA mechanical fuel injection.
Note the condition of brightwork and plastic lighting lenses, both of which present very well in accordance with the car's limited use. 1974 was the final model year for U.S. market cars, though sales would continue elsewhere through 1977, replaced the final year by another Giugiaro design, the Alfetta GT, a platform best remembered today for its final GTV6 evolution.
Inside, the cabin displays a similar level of preservation to the exterior, with seats, door panels, headliner, dash, and virtually all other surfaces appearing near new. The acutely angled, wand-like shifter stirs a slick 5-speed gearbox, an elegant, large-diameter steering wheel points, an eager, communicative front end, and deeply cowled, saucer-sized gauges display vital info.
Tilt the hood forward and check out the classic Alfa twin-cam four, a stupendous motor regardless of displacement or induction type. In late, North American 2.0-liter, fuel-injected form these motors made 129 hp, 133 lb.-ft of torque, and propelled the GTV 2000's modest 2,375 pounds down the road quite well indeed. Four-wheel disc brakes and a limited slip differential round out the car's sporting credentials.
Sale includes extensive maintenance documentation, including a stamped dealer service book and many receipts and invoices. All factory books and tools accompany the car as well.
