New insider reports suggest the legendary seventh-generation Chevrolet Camaro may take a dramatically different direction when it returns. Instead of reviving the traditional two-door coupe, Chevrolet is reportedly planning to launch the next Camaro as a four-door performance sedan for the 2029 model year, giving the iconic nameplate a more practical identity without abandoning its muscle-car roots.

According to the reports, the seventh-generation Chevrolet Camaro will ride on GM's updated Alpha 2 platform, the same architecture that underpins several of the company's rear-wheel-drive performance models. Measuring around 196 inches (498 cm) in length, it is expected to have proportions similar to the discontinued Chevrolet SS.

Despite the additional pair of doors, enthusiasts may still find plenty to like. Rear-wheel drive is reportedly staying, as is an optional manual transmission. Entry-level versions are expected to feature a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while higher-performance models could receive a Corvette-derived V8 producing well over 450 horsepower (456 PS). That combination would allow the new Camaro to remain a serious performance car while offering greater everyday practicality.

The move would also position Chevrolet directly against the Dodge Charger, appealing to buyers who want muscle-car performance but also need easier rear-seat access and enough space for passengers or child seats.

Of course, none of these details have been officially confirmed by Chevrolet, so they remain speculation for now. However, if the reports prove accurate, the seventh-generation Chevrolet Camaro could represent one of the biggest transformations in the model's history.
