    Chevrolet COPO Camaro, 2015

Chassis No.: 2015COPO038 $47,300 | Sold • Engine: V-8 • Transmission: Automatic • Exterior: Summit White • Interior: Black • Body: Coupe • No. 38 of 69 produced in 2015 • Collector Edition Appearance Package including Summit White body, Matte Gray graphics and High Voltage Orange stripe • Chevrolet Performance 350 CI LSX cast iron block • Whipple 2.9L twin-screw supercharger • ATI TH400 transmission • Hurst Quarterstick shifter • Strange Engineering 9 inch housing with aluminum center section • NHRA Certified chromoly cage • Double-adjustable Strange coilover shocks • Strange Engineering brake system • Carbon fiber cowl hood No four letters carry more weight with Bowtie fans than the acronym COPO. Those letters, of course, refer to Chevrolet’s Central Office Production Order program, the means by which legendary Chevy performance guru Vince Piggins launched the famed 1969 COPO Camaros that carved out a historical niche in professional Stock and Super Stock drag racing. In 2012, Chevrolet revived the term for a series of 69 factory drag racing Camaros, which sold out immediately. The factory continued with the program through the Gen 5 Camaro’s final year of production in 2015, when the example offered here became No. 41 of the final run of 69 cars. Intended for drag racing only, No. 41 proudly announces its unique historical significance with the optional Collector Edition Appearance Package combining Matte Gray front end graphics with High Voltage Orange striping over brilliant Summit White paint, its competition-only mission evident in such giveaways as the bulging cowl induction hood, rare spoiler, staggered-width Hoosier drag rubber on up-level Weld COPO alloy wheels, wheelie bars and a drag chute. The featherweight carbon fiber hood lifts to reveal the Camaro’s hand-built power source: a 350 CI LSX V-8 based on a sturdy cast iron block stuffed with a Callies 4340 Dragonslayer crankshaft, super-duty Callies forged rotating assembly, Mahle forged dome pistons and a Comp Cams billet hydraulic roller camshaft. Topped by a 2.9L Whipple twin-screw supercharger fed by an Aeromotive Eliminator fuel pump, The LSX V-8 cranks sidewall-wrinkling torque through a Hurst Quarterstick-shifted ATI TH400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission to a 9-inch Strange Engineering rear end with aluminum center section. Strange also supplied the car’s highly adjustable double-action coilover suspension and disc brake system. The Camaro’s black interior is all business, incorporating an NHRA-certified chromoly roll cage, lightweight competition bucket seats and safety harnesses and full instrumentation including a 10,000 RPM tachometer with shift indicator light. A purebred factory drag racer, 2015 COPO Camaro No. 41 combines leading edge engineering technology and classic muscle car style to carry on one of Chevrolet’s great racing traditions. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1151529/2015-chevrolet-copo-camaro/

    Chevrolet COPO Camaro, 2015

Chassis No.: 2015COPO038 $110,000 | Sold • Exterior: Summit White • Interior: Black • No. 41 of 69 produced in 2015 • Collector Edition Appearance Package including Summit White body, Matte Gray graphics and High Voltage Orange stripe • Chevrolet Performance 350 CI LSX cast iron block • Whipple 2.9L twin-screw supercharger • Callies 4340 Dragonslayer crankshaft • Callies H-beam Ultra Rods • Clevite H series main bearings • Mahle forged dome pistons • Comp Cams billet hydraulic roller camshaft • Aeromotive Eliminator fuel pump • ATI TH400 transmission • Hurst Quarterstick shifter • Strange Engineering 9 inch housing with aluminum center section • NHRA Certified chromoly cage • Double-adjustable Strange coilover shocks • Srange brake system • Carbon fiber cowl hood • Wheelie bar parachute • Up-level Black COPO wheels • Sold on bill of sale In 2015, Chevrolet brought the fifth generation of the Camaro to an end. That meant the 69 drag-race-only COPO Camaros built in 2015 would be the final fifth-generation racers as well. This car is the 41st built of those 69, and it wears the special Collector’s Appearance Package of Summit White paint, matte gray graphics and a High Voltage Orange accent stripe. Chevrolet offered the 2015 COPO Camaro with a choice of six different crate engine packages. Decals on the carbon-fiber cowl hood let the world know this car is equipped with a 350 CI LSX motor force-fed by a 2.9L Whipple twin-screw supercharger. The bottom end in the cast-iron block was built to withstand the blower’s pressure, using a Callies forged 4340 DragonSlayer crankshaft, Callies forged H-beam Ultra connecting rods (turning on Callies H-series main bearings) and Mahle forged dome pistons. A Comp Cams billet hydraulic camshaft controls the valvetrain, while an Automotive Eliminator fuel pump ensures plenty of fuel for quarter-mile blasts. The LSX is joined to an ATI TH400 3-speed automatic transmission—controlled by a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter—which sends power back to a Strange Engineering 9-inch rear end with an aluminum center section. All the COPO Camaros were built using the same body-in-white as the production Camaros, though the cars were stripped of many of their road-going components, like their independent rear suspensions, to make way for a racing chassis and NHRA-mandated safety equipment. The COPO Camaro is suspended using Strange double-adjustable coilover shocks, and Strange also supplied the car’s brake system, which is augmented by a parachute. Wheelie bars keep the car earthbound when those meaty Hoosier slicks hook up. Those, and the Hoosier front-runners, are mounted on up-level black COPO wheels. The driver is protected inside by a NHRA-certified chromoly roll cage. The modern COPO Camaro’s build quantities have historic roots: 69 are built in each model year in tribute to the 69 ZL1 Camaros built in 1969 with all-aluminum 427 CI engines. https://www.mecum.com/lots/481010/2015-chevrolet-copo-camaro/
