There is no single safe replacement interval for the Land Cruiser 300's brake pads and rotors. They should be inspected at every scheduled service and replaced according to their actual condition: friction-material and rotor thickness, wear uniformity, runout, cracks, overheating and the vehicle's behaviour under braking. Wear-indicator noise, vibration or weaker deceleration calls for an unscheduled inspection. Key rule. Do not wait for an assumed 40,000 or 60,000 km interval. LC300 weight, traffic, dune driving, towing and driving style can change brake life dramatically. Make the decision after measuring both the front and rear axles, not from mileage alone. 4 signs of worn brake pads and rotors on a Land Cruiser 300 One symptom does not always identify one faulty part. A squeal may come from a wear indicator, trapped sand or a glazed pad, while vibration can also be caused by the hub, wheel or suspension. Treat these signs as reasons to inspect the vehicle, not as a diagnosis by themselves. Metallic squeal or grinding. A persistent high-pitched squeal while driving or braking may occur when a mechanical wear indicator touches the rotor. Harsh grinding is more serious: the friction material may be gone and the pad backing plate may already be damaging the working surface. Stop using the vehicle until it is inspected. Brake-pedal or steering-wheel vibration. If pulsation repeatedly appears during normal braking and changes with speed, check rotor thickness variation, lateral runout, hub condition and the uniformity of pad-material transfer. Normal ABS operation can also pulse the pedal during emergency braking, but that is a different operating condition. The vehicle pulls to one side or brakes unevenly. Possible causes include a sticking caliper, different wear rates between the inner and outer pads, surface contamination, a tyre problem or a suspension fault. Replacing only the most worn pad will not correct the underlying cause. Pedal travel has increased or the stopping distance is longer. A soft pedal, delayed bite, a hot-brake smell or noticeably weaker deceleration requires urgent inspection of the whole system. In addition to the pads and rotors, check the fluid, hydraulic integrity, calipers, brake booster and electronic systems. What happens if brake pads and rotors are not replaced in time? Wear develops gradually, but the final stage can arrive quickly once the friction material becomes too thin. A heavy SUV needs an adequate braking reserve: the system must dissipate substantial energy, and high loads combined with repeated stops increase heat rapidly. Braking consistency deteriorates. A thin pad provides less thermal insulation for the caliper, heats up faster and may lose effectiveness during repeated braking. The driver presses the pedal harder, while the brakes become less predictable. The rotor surface is damaged. Once the friction material is worn away, the metal backing plate cuts deep grooves into the rotor. A rotor that could have remained serviceable may become unusable, often adding pad replacement and caliper service to the repair. The risk of overheating and runout increases. Uneven pad operation, contaminated slide pins or overloading can create areas with different friction levels. Pulsation, vibration and local hot spots then appear. Machining a rotor without measurements will not always solve the problem. Nearby components are affected. Heat transfers to the caliper, dust boots, slide-pin grease, hub and brake fluid. A dragging brake also places additional load on the tyre and increases fuel consumption. The vehicle becomes unsafe. The brakes may feel acceptable during calm city driving yet lose effectiveness in an emergency stop, on a descent or with a full load. Do not postpone repairs until grinding becomes constant. Toyota's official approach to LC300 brake maintenance Toyota does not specify one mandatory replacement mileage for brake pads and rotors. The owner's manual describes brake-pad wear-limit indicators that produce a warning noise when replacement is required. Periodic maintenance includes brake-system inspection, while the exact service limits must be taken from the repair data for the individual vehicle. According to the service information at toyota.ae, the owner's manual and the vehicle's own data should be used to confirm the exact schedule and scope of work. For an LC300, verify the VIN, model year, supply market and brake specification: rotor dimensions or part numbers from another version must not be transferred automatically. Important: warning noise must not be treated as the only replacement criterion. An indicator may not be fitted to every pad, may be installed on only one side, or may fail to warn of uneven wear. A visual inspection and proper measurements provide the reliable answer. Which brake pads and rotors fit the Land Cruiser 300? The safest choice is Toyota Genuine Parts or high-quality equivalents that match the VIN and the exact brake system. Model and year alone are not enough: the front and rear axles use different parts, and the equipment may vary by market and trim level. Part number. Select parts by VIN in a current catalogue, not only by comparing them with a photograph of the old pad. Confirm the side, axle, rotor diameter and compatibility with the electronic parking brake. Friction characteristics. A pad must deliver the intended braking performance, heat resistance and rotor compatibility. An excessively hard compound may accelerate rotor wear and increase noise, while an unknown compound may become inconsistent after heating. Rotor dimensions. Diameter, thickness, overall height, ventilation, mounting dimensions and installation direction must all match the specification. A rotor that looks similar is not necessarily suitable. Repair as an axle set. Replace the pads as a complete set on one axle. Compare both rotors and normally service them as a pair to preserve equal braking force on the left and right sides. Installation hardware. Inspect shims, springs, sensors or mechanical indicators, dust boots and slide pins. Old or incorrectly installed hardware is a common source of noise and uneven wear. Before ordering parts, it is useful to verify the generation, engine and main specifications in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 catalogue. Final confirmation of pad and rotor part numbers must still be made by VIN: the model catalogue helps identify the vehicle but does not replace a parts lookup. Why does the LC300 squeal, vibrate or brake poorly? Noise and vibration can appear after parts have been replaced even when the remaining thickness is normal. Separate the symptom from its cause and the corrective action: replacing rotors 'just in case' may achieve nothing if the hub, caliper or installation is responsible. How heat, sand and heavy use affect brake life High ambient temperature does not create a separate brake-pad replacement interval by itself. What matters more is how much heat the brakes absorb within a short period and whether they have time to cool. Across the Gulf, several common operating conditions can increase this load. Congested traffic and hard acceleration. Frequent stops in a heavy vehicle accelerate front-pad wear. Smooth, anticipatory braking reduces unnecessary heat cycles. Dunes and off-road driving. Sand and small particles can enter the contact area, while the stability system may apply individual brakes. After a demanding route, check for noise, unusual heat, damaged boots and uneven wear. Towing and full loads. Additional mass increases the energy that the brakes must dissipate. Use engine braking on descents and avoid holding the pedal continuously. Washing after heavy braking. Cold water on very hot rotors creates a sudden temperature change. Allow the brakes to cool naturally and do not direct a powerful water jet at a hot assembly. Long-term parking and humidity. Light surface rust on the rotors often disappears after a few normal stops. Deep corrosion, pulsation or persistent noise requires inspection. Practical inspection and replacement checklist Record the symptom. Note the speed, temperature, pedal effort and conditions in which noise or vibration appears. This makes diagnosis faster and more accurate. Inspect both sides. A pad cannot be assessed reliably through a wheel spoke. The inner pad may wear faster than the outer pad because of a sticking slide pin or piston. Ask to see the measurements. A useful repair order records the remaining pad material, each rotor's thickness and the service limit for the exact version. 'They still have some life left' is not a measurement. Correct the cause of uneven wear. New parts will quickly develop the same problem if the caliper, hub or installation hardware is not serviced. Follow the rear-brake procedure. The electronic parking brake requires the correct service mode. Forcing the piston back can damage the mechanism. Bed in the new parts correctly. After installation, avoid unnecessary emergency-level stops and prolonged clamping of hot pads while stationary. Follow the part manufacturer's procedure; road safety always takes priority over the bedding-in routine. Inspect a pre-owned vehicle. In the Land Cruiser listings, rotor condition can only be estimated from photographs. Before purchase, obtain measurements, a safe road test and a caliper inspection. Mistakes to avoid Replacing parts solely by mileage. The same mileage may represent relaxed motorway use or constant stop-and-go driving with a full load. Actual condition matters more than an arbitrary number. Installing new pads on an unchecked rotor. Deep grooves, runout or thickness below the service limit will not disappear after pad replacement and may damage the new set. Replacing only one side. Different materials and wear levels on the same axle create unequal braking force. Pads must be installed as a complete axle set. Treating every squeal as a pad fault. The source may be contamination, installation hardware, the dust shield or a trapped object. Locate the source before replacing parts. Ignoring a soft pedal. This symptom cannot be explained by pad wear alone. Air, a leak, overheated fluid or another fault may be present, so the brake system needs urgent inspection. Conclusion Land Cruiser 300 brake pads and rotors should be replaced according to regular inspection and measurement, not one fixed mileage. Wear-indicator noise, grinding, vibration, pulling or reduced braking performance requires prompt diagnosis. Select parts by VIN and replace them as a complete axle set.
For the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, the official maintenance schedule calls for inspecting the oil in the front and rear differentials every 20,000 km and replacing it every 40,000 km. Check it sooner after frequent driving in sand, water crossings, towing, or prolonged high-load use. The correct oil type and capacity depend on the axle configuration and differential locks. Key point. Do not confuse differential oil with automatic transmission fluid or transfer case oil. These are three separate systems that use different products and service procedures. Before ordering supplies, the workshop should identify the vehicle configuration by VIN and confirm whether a rear limited-slip differential is fitted. How Can You Tell When the Land Cruiser 300 Differential Oil Needs Changing? Differential oil has no convenient dipstick or dedicated wear indicator. Waiting for an obvious symptom is therefore a poor strategy: start with the maintenance schedule and service records, then assess the findings from an inspection. Noise or metal debris may already indicate that an oil change alone will not solve the problem. The scheduled mileage has been reached. Inspection is due at 20,000 km and replacement at 40,000 km; the cycle then repeats. If the service history is unknown, check the oil level, condition, and sealing during the first comprehensive service rather than assuming the oil is factory-filled solely on the seller’s word. A speed-related hum has appeared. A steady low whine that becomes more noticeable under acceleration or when lifting off the throttle may come from the ring-and-pinion gears or bearings. Wheel bearings, tyres, and the propeller shaft can produce similar sounds, so changing the oil at random is not enough—a road test and source isolation are required. A leak has been found. Oil around the axle shaft seals, pinion seal, drain plug, or fill plug calls for an immediate level check. Even a small loss matters: the remaining oil may be adequate for gentle road use but insufficient for sustained dune driving or towing in high temperatures. The oil looks cloudy or emulsified. A pale suspension or milky appearance indicates water contamination. This can follow a deep water crossing, pressure washing around the breather vents, or a sealing failure. Replace the contaminated oil after correcting the cause, and inspect the assembly for corrosion and bearing damage. The magnetic plug carries large metal particles. A fine metallic paste on the magnetic drain plug can develop through normal running-in and wear. Separate shiny flakes, needles, or metal fragments are a reason to go beyond an oil change and inspect the gear teeth, bearings, and bearing preload. When to Inspect the Oil Ahead of Schedule Sand does not enter the sealed housing of a sound axle by itself, but driving on loose surfaces increases torque demand and ring-and-pinion temperature. Low-range operation, long climbs, a heavy trailer, and driving with reduced tyre pressure add further load. After a water crossing, the absence of water inside the assembly matters more than the calendar interval. An early inspection is also advisable after repairs to the axle shafts, seals, differential carrier, or locking mechanism. If the assembly was opened, confirm that the correct quantity of oil was added, the plugs were tightened to the specified torque, and no leak appeared after the first drives. In this case, count the interval from the completed repair and record it in the service history. What Happens If You Do Not Change the Land Cruiser 300 Differential Oil? The hypoid gears in the front and rear differentials operate under high contact pressure with substantial sliding between the teeth. GL-5 gear oil forms a protective film and suspends wear particles. As it ages, the oil oxidises, becomes contaminated, and transfers heat less effectively. The consequences develop gradually. Additive performance deteriorates first. Extreme-pressure and antioxidant additives are depleted while microscopic metal particles accumulate in the oil. The driver may not hear any change yet, even though the protection margin under high load has already fallen. Contact temperature then rises. A weakened oil film separates the gear teeth and bearing races less effectively. The problem develops particularly quickly during sustained sand driving, towing, and sharp alternating loads, when torque repeatedly shifts between propulsion and engine braking. Wear of the ring-and-pinion gears and bearings accelerates. Pitting, scoring, and surface spalling may develop. The contact geometry changes and a whine appears. Fresh oil can reduce noise only when the oil itself caused it; it cannot repair damaged components. Seals and locking mechanisms suffer. Overheating degrades seals and increases the risk of leakage. On a vehicle with a rear limited-slip differential, unsuitable oil can interfere with the friction elements and cause grabbing, vibration, or noise while cornering. The end result can be a differential rebuild. If the vehicle continues to be driven with a low oil level, water in the housing, or a pronounced whine, the gears, bearings, and casing can be damaged. A simple oil change then becomes ring-and-pinion adjustment or replacement—and sometimes replacement of the entire differential assembly. Important. Do not try to cure a loud whine with thicker oil or an additive. A viscosity change may mask the sound, but it will not reverse wear and can impair lubrication. If a sudden whine, vibration, leak, or overheating appears, stop high-load use and arrange a diagnosis. Which Differential Oil Does Toyota Specify for the Land Cruiser 300? The Land Cruiser 300 owner’s manual specifies Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil 75W-85, API GL-5, or an equivalent product. The LT version is used in most front and rear differentials. A rear limited-slip differential requires LX oil of the same viscosity and performance grade. Do not choose a product solely because the label says “75W-85”: GL-5 performance and compatibility with the specific differential design are essential. LSD means limited-slip differential. Listed capacities are for reference: set the final level using the procedure in the owner’s manual and confirm oil applicability against the VIN. Toyota’s Official Differential Oil Maintenance Schedule Under the official LC300 maintenance schedule, the front and rear differential oil is inspected at 20,000 km, replaced at 40,000 km, inspected again at 60,000 km, and replaced again at 80,000 km. The same sequence continues thereafter. An inspection covers leaks, oil level, and oil condition, with correction or replacement when necessary. Confirm the schedule for the specific vehicle by VIN, as equipment and service programmes can vary between markets. How to Change the Differential Oil Correctly Open the fill plug first. If it is seized or damaged, do not drain the oil until access has been restored. Otherwise, the vehicle may be left with an empty differential that cannot be refilled. Drain the oil warm, but at a safe temperature. After a drive, contaminants remain suspended and leave the housing more effectively. At the same time, assess the smell, signs of emulsion, and the amount of metal on the magnetic plug. Renew the plug seals as specified. Reusing a deformed sealing washer increases the risk of leakage. Clean the threads and seating surfaces, then tighten the plugs to the torque in the repair information—never by feel with an impact wrench. Keep the vehicle level. The differential oil level is set relative to the fill opening. A tilted lift, or working with the vehicle supported by only one jack, distorts the result and can lead to underfilling or overfilling. Check for leaks after a short drive. Inspect both plugs, the axle shaft seals, and the pinion seal. Record the date, mileage, oil type, and observations about metal debris; this makes the next inspection and evaluation of a pre-owned vehicle easier. Basic information about the generation, engines, and body style can be checked in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 catalog. The specific VIN must still be verified before ordering oil or determining the rear differential type. Old Differential Oil: Why Does a Land Cruiser 300 Whine While Driving? A whine develops when gears or bearings create persistent vibrations. Old or insufficient oil increases metal-to-metal contact, but it is not the only possible cause. The sound pattern helps direct the diagnosis, although a final conclusion requires an inspection on a lift and an assessment of the drained oil. The whine grows louder under power. The loaded face of the ring-and-pinion teeth, an incorrect contact pattern, or pinion-bearing wear are common suspects. If the noise appeared soon after a repair, check the contact pattern and bearing preload—not just the oil brand. The whine is more noticeable on overrun. The load shifts to the opposite face of the gear teeth. This symptom can also be linked to ring-and-pinion adjustment, excessive play, or bearing wear, so compare the sound under power, while coasting, and during engine braking. The noise changes in a bend. A wheel bearing, the tyres, or differential components may be responsible. On an LSD-equipped vehicle, grabbing or shuddering at low speed is an additional reason to verify the oil specification and inspect the friction mechanism. Noise is accompanied by vibration. Inspect the propeller shafts, universal joints, splined connections, mounts, and wheel balance. Changing differential oil will not cure a vibration whose source lies elsewhere in the driveline. The sound appeared after a water crossing or leak. Check the oil level and condition urgently. Water reduces the film’s load-carrying capacity and causes corrosion, while a low level leaves the upper bearings and part of the gear teeth without adequate splash lubrication. What to Inspect Before Deciding on a Repair Begin with the basics: tyre pressures and wear, wheel-hub play, leaks, oil level, and propeller-shaft condition. Then listen to the front and rear differentials under different loads. Filter the drained oil through a clean mesh or filter paper to assess the particles. If large metal fragments are found, consult a driveline specialist before further use. After an oil change, compare the noise on the same route and at the same speed. If the whine is unchanged, do not work through progressively thicker oils and additives. Measure clearances and inspect the bearings and gear contact pattern. The earlier the cause is identified, the better the chance of replacing an individual bearing or seal before the gears are damaged. Conclusion For the Land Cruiser 300, the baseline cycle is to inspect the oil in both differentials every 20,000 km and replace it every 40,000 km. Inspect it sooner after water contamination, a leak, heavy use, or the onset of a whine, and use only the correct type of 75W-85 GL-5 oil.
For the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, the transfer case oil should be inspected every 40,000 km or 48 months, whichever comes first. Toyota lists this as an inspection, with the level corrected or the oil replaced as necessary, rather than an unconditional replacement. An earlier check is required after water crossings or demanding off-road driving, or if there is a leak or unusual noise. The reference refill capacity is 1.79 L. The owner's manual specifies Toyota Genuine Transfer Gear Oil LF or an equivalent product of suitable quality, with SAE 75W viscosity. Automatic transmission fluid and differential oil have different requirements; they must not be used in the transfer case merely because the product names appear similar. Key point. The I mark in Toyota's schedule means inspect the unit and, if necessary, correct the level or replace the oil. A sound transfer case containing clean oil may therefore not require replacement at exactly 40,000 km, while a vehicle exposed to water or affected by a leak may need it much earlier. How Can You Tell When the Land Cruiser 300 Transfer Case Oil Needs Changing? The transfer case distributes torque between the axles and remains under load even when the driver is unaware of it working. Mileage alone is not enough to assess the oil: the level, sealing, signs of water contamination, quantity of wear debris, and nature of any noise all matter. The scheduled inspection is due. If 40,000 km or four years have passed since the previous check, the oil's condition should now be assessed. If the service history is unknown, do not rely solely on the seller's word: ask for a repair order or a dated mileage record, or have a basic inspection performed by a workshop. There are traces of oil on the housing. Wet areas around the drain or fill plug, housing joints, or oil seals may indicate a leak. Slight sweating and an active leak are not the same, but a falling oil level is more dangerous than the oil's age: lubrication removes less heat and can no longer maintain a stable film on heavily loaded components. The oil looks cloudy or milky, or smells burnt. A pale emulsion suggests possible water ingress. A sharp overheated smell, excessively dark colour, or visible metallic glitter calls for diagnosis. Fine dust on the drain plug magnet may be a normal running-in by-product, whereas larger chips or particles are a reason to identify the source of wear. A new hum or whine has appeared under load. Noise that changes during acceleration, overrun, or transfer-case range selection should not be ignored. However, noise alone is not enough to prescribe an oil change: tyres, wheel bearings, propeller shafts, differentials, and the automatic transmission can produce a similar hum. The source must be isolated on a lift or during a road test. After water or demanding off-road use, there are doubts about sealing. Toyota warns that water can enter the transmission, differentials, and transfer case, reducing the lubricating properties of their oils. After a water crossing, deep mud, or extended driving in sand, it is best to inspect the housing, breather, oil seals, and oil condition without waiting for the scheduled mileage. Why Heat and Sand Change the Inspection Approach High ambient temperature alone is not a reason to use a more viscous oil. SAE 75W is specified for the design of the assembly. Extended dune driving, towing, low-speed operation at high torque, and transmission heat place additional demands on it. Sand should not freely enter a sealed transfer case, but it can hinder underbody cooling, damage the protection panels, and combine with dirt to conceal a fresh leak. An oil change is not automatically required after ordinary driving on dry tracks. It is more important to inspect the underside, remove dense deposits of dirt, confirm that the breather and seals are undamaged, and check the housing for fresh oil traces. After a water crossing, the threshold for inspection should be lower: emulsified oil quickly compromises the protection of bearings and gears. What Happens If You Do Not Change the Land Cruiser 300 Transfer Case Oil? The consequences depend on the cause. Oil that has simply been in service for a long time and a transfer case that has lost oil through a seal are operating under very different conditions. The most dangerous scenario is continuing to drive with a low level, water contamination, or large wear particles. First, the oil's properties deteriorate. Heat cycles and wear debris alter the performance of its additives. The oil becomes less able to maintain a protective film, while contaminants continue to circulate among the gears, chain, and bearings. Then temperature and noise increase. When the level is too low, some components receive less lubrication and cooling. At an early stage, the driver may hear a hum, whine, or metallic sound only under load; sometimes there are no outward symptoms. Wear of bearings and working surfaces accelerates. Clearances increase, creating play, vibration, and knocks as the driveline changes between drive and overrun. An oil change alone cannot restore components that are already damaged. Four-wheel-drive operation is affected. Mechanical wear or contamination may be accompanied by difficult range selection, system warnings, or unstable torque distribution. Diagnosis is needed to confirm the cause because actuator or electronic faults can produce similar symptoms. The worst-case outcome is serious transfer case damage. Failure of a bearing, gear, or chain drive can cause loss of drive, seizure, or secondary damage. Repair cost depends on the vehicle specification and the parts required, so quoting a universal figure before dismantling would be misleading. Important. An oil change is not a repair. If a hum, vibration, or knocking remains after service, do not try to mask it with a thicker oil: the transfer case needs diagnosis of the oil level, bearings, gears, chain, propeller shafts, and related components. Toyota's Official LC300 Transfer Case Oil Maintenance Schedule In the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 maintenance schedule, Transfer oil is listed as an inspection item. Toyota defines the inspection as checking the unit and correcting the level or replacing the oil as necessary. The specifications in the official Toyota owner's manual state the oil capacity, type, and viscosity. Source: Toyota manuals OM60S14E and OM60V20E. Check the current schedule and specification for the individual vehicle by VIN on toyota.ae or with an authorised dealer. The engine, model year, and regional specification can be matched provisionally in the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 catalogue. This is not sufficient for ordering oil or servicing: confirm the final requirements against the VIN, manual, and unit identification. How to Interpret the 40,000 km / 48-Month Interval This is the maximum period before the next inspection, not a promise that the oil will remain serviceable under all conditions. If the vehicle has covered only 20,000 km in four years, the time-based inspection is still due. If it reaches 40,000 km in one year, mileage governs. If a low level, water, overheating, or large metal chips are found, replace the oil immediately after identifying the cause. The phrase 'filled for life' does not apply to this schedule: Toyota explicitly includes Transfer oil among its periodic inspections. At the same time, prescribing mandatory replacement for every vehicle, for example every 20,000 km, is also incorrect. Such an interval may be an individual workshop's recommendation for extreme use, but it is not a universal manufacturer requirement. Which Oil to Use - and What Not to Substitute Toyota Genuine Transfer Gear Oil LF SAE 75W is specified for the transfer case. The LF designation and exact viscosity matter: the same number on a container does not guarantee identical formulation or performance at low temperature, under load, or in contact with the assembly's materials. If an alternative is selected, the workshop should confirm that it specifically meets Toyota's requirement, not merely that it is generally classified as a gear oil. Do not use Toyota ATF WS. It is an automatic transmission fluid, and the LC300 has a separate specification for that unit. Do not substitute 75W-85 differential oil merely because the viscosity designation looks similar. Toyota specifies a different oil family and the GL-5 standard for the differentials. Do not mix products unless necessary. If the service history is unknown, it is safer to perform a complete change with the correct oil and record the brand, specification, date, and mileage. Do not rely only on container capacity. The 1.79 L figure is a reference value; set the final level according to the manufacturer's procedure with the vehicle positioned correctly. What Problems Can Old or Contaminated Transfer Case Oil Cause? The symptoms often overlap with faults in the differentials, propeller shafts, and wheel hubs. The table helps indicate what to inspect, but it is not a substitute for diagnosis. Practical Service Checklist ☐ Confirm the vehicle's VIN, production year, and regional specification. ☐ Check the documented date and mileage of the last transfer case inspection. ☐ Inspect the housing, fill and drain plugs, oil seals, and underbody protection on a lift. ☐ Before draining, make sure the fill plug can be loosened. This avoids draining the oil only to find that the unit cannot be refilled. ☐ Inspect the drained oil and plug magnet. If water or large metal chips are present, find the cause rather than simply refilling the unit. ☐ Use Toyota Genuine Transfer Gear Oil LF SAE 75W or a confirmed equivalent product. ☐ Fit new sealing washers and follow the specified tightening torque and oil-level procedure in the manual. ☐ After servicing, check for leaks and carry out a short road test without maximum loads. ☐ Record the date, mileage, oil name, actual quantity used, and inspection findings. Mistakes to Avoid Changing the oil solely because of a noise. First confirm that the sound comes from the transfer case; otherwise, fresh oil will not remove the cause. Waiting for exactly 40,000 km when there is a leak. The scheduled interval does not provide a grace period when the oil level is low or the seals are damaged. Switching to a thicker oil because of the heat. Climate affects inspection frequency and operating load, but the oil specification must come from the manual. Treating clarity as the only criterion. Even oil that looks clean may have the wrong specification or be operating at an insufficient level. Confusing the transfer case with the differentials or automatic transmission. Each unit requires its own fluid; using one product for the entire LC300 driveline is a warning sign that the documentation has not been checked. Conclusion For the Land Cruiser 300, Toyota's benchmark is to inspect the transfer case oil every 40,000 km or 48 months and replace it according to condition. Use Transfer Gear Oil LF SAE 75W, do not confuse it with ATF or differential oil, and arrange an unscheduled inspection after water exposure, a leak, or a new hum
