    Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk. I, 1983

Chassis No.: VS6BXXWPFBCA66598 Engine No.: CA66598 Registration: TMC 241Y Sold £20,720 | Sold Ford finally entered the mini-car market in 1976 with the launch of the Fiesta. The model proved an unqualified success right from the word go but surprisingly, it took nearly six years before a genuine performance version was added to the range, in the neat and tidy form of the XR2. This sporting model may well have been inspired by the famous success of the two Ford Fiestas in the 1979 Monte Carlo Rally with the British entry driven by Roger Clark and aided by co-driver Jim Porter, and a German entry piloted by Ari Vatanen and co-driven by David Richards. Both cars were highly modified and were powered by competition tuned versions of the 1600cc Kent 'crossflow' engine - a later version of which was fitted in the Fiesta XR2, launched in 1981. Visually, the XR2 popped into the limelight in a range of new colours, with alloy wheels, large circular driving lamps, and black plastic trim decorating the interior and exterior. With a quoted performance of 0-60 mph in 9.3 seconds and 105 mph top speed, the XR2 ‘hot-hatch’ became a cult car beloved of boy racers throughout the 1980s. This is a very good and original 1983 Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk. I. It was purchased by a film and television car hire company three years ago to use as a prop in 1980s period productions and, as such, needed to be correct and reliable as any breakdown would be very costly to the production company. This XR2 is finished in silver with the authentic black and orange stripe side decals and original light grey with blue and red stripe cloth interior, which is in lovely condition throughout. Also sporting original alloy wheels, this excellent XR2 is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in April 2023, original handbook pack and a file containing old MoT’s, invoices and old tax discs. The market in classic ‘hot-hatches’ has been warming up in recent years with enthusiasts and collectors wanting to seek out quality examples of the car they really wanted in their teenage years, and the XR2 is always one that is at the top of the list. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4897&au=80

    Ford Fiesta XR2, 1988

Chassis No.: VS6BXXWPFBJC29042 Engine No.: JC29042 Registration: F424 GAL Sold £13,780 | Sold Ford finally entered the mini-car market in 1976 with the launch of the Fiesta. The model proved an unqualified success right from the word go, but surprisingly it took nearly six years before a genuine performance version was added to the range, in the neat and tidy form of the XR2. This sporting model may well have been inspired by the famous success of the two Ford Fiestas in the 1979 Monte-Carlo Rally; the British entry driven by Roger Clark and aided by co-driver Jim Porter, and a German entry piloted by Ari Vatanen and co-driven by David Richards. Both cars were highly modified and were powered by competition tuned versions of the 1600cc Kent 'crossflow' engine - a later version of which was fitted in the Fiesta XR2, launched in 1981. Latterly the CVH engine was used. Visually, the XR2 popped into the limelight in a range of new colours, with alloy wheels, and plastic trim decorating the interior and exterior. With a quoted performance of 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds and 105mph top speed, the XR2 hot hatch became a cult car beloved of boy racers throughout the 1980s. Originally registered on 12th August 1988, this Fiesta XR2 has been well looked after and presents well in the classic colour combination of grey metallic with the familiar grey cloth that is also in good order. The file for this low mileage example contains some service history up to 2014. Then, we are told, the car was put into storage until 2020, at which point the car benefited from a complete photographic recommissioning. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 26th June 2023, and a large file of service documents and previous MoT test certificates. The market in classic ‘hot hatches’ has been warming up in recent years with enthusiasts and collectors wanting to seek out quality examples of the car they really wanted in their teenage years, and the XR2 is always one that is at the top of the list. Offered for sale at a very realistic estimate given the superb condition. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4455&au=78

    Ford Fiesta XR2i, 1988

Chassis No.: SFABXXBAFBJK52382 Engine No.: JK52382 Registration: F820 OOW This Ford Fiesta was the second generation of the Fiesta supermini built by Ford Europe. Originally introduced in 1983, it was a mild facelift of the original car, with some re-engineering to accept an expanded range of engines and it was available in 3-door hatchback and panel van styles. Arguably the most desirable of the Fiesta line up was the XR2. This is certainly the case with the car here on offer. A low mileage example with lots of history, this XR2 was subject to a complete bare metal restoration. A total of three months was spent on a body jig and all new panels were fitted where required and then resprayed in original white. The car was completely refitted at Rindt Vehicle Design with suspension and brakes enjoying a total overhaul. The result is this stunning, rust-free car that can be enjoyed for years to come. The vendor informs us that prior to the auction this stunning Ford will be serviced and given a year’s MOT. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4559&au=78
