Classically finished in California White, this fuel-injected, overdrive-equipped P1800E is superb throughout and has benefited from much recent expenditure in recent years. 1970 marked the arrival of the fuel-injected 1800E, which was fitted with the 130bhp B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel-injection and a revised camshaft and offered 118mph and 0–60mph in 9.5 seconds. The 1970 model was also the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes. This 1971 example is finished in the classic colour combination of California White over a gently patinated red leather interior. Recently part of a small private Collection, being maintained regardless of cost and ready to be used at the turn of the key.
Fitted with the desirable option of overdrive alongside electronic variable power steering, a rare sunroof and an aluminium radiator which, when all combined, make for a very useable package. Significant expenditure with specialists Templar Classics of c.£11,500 since 2020 includes an engine rebuild with new camshaft and followers, repair to front crossmember turrets, refurb of front suspension, new exhaust system, new half-shaft seals, new heated rear screen (very rare!) - all 2022- and replacement tail pipes, axle straps, clutch-arm gaiter, rev counter and time clock repairs and Waxoyled - all in 2020.
Conceived in Sweden, designed in Italy, unveiled in Belgium, built in Britain and sold in America, Volvo's P1800 was and still is a niche product and all the better for it.
