  • Ex Pierre Boulez
  • Iconic model
  • Owned by celebrate French composer, Pierre Boulez, from 1984 to 2012
  • Present ownership since 2016
  • Registered in France

Launched in 1974, the Golf represented a complete break with Volkswagen tradition yet would prove as big a sales success as its Beetle predecessor. In GTi form the Golf has become one of the great icons of modern motoring, giving rise to an entirely new class of sporting saloon - the 'hot hatch' - in the process. Marketed in the USA as the Rabbit, the Giugiaro-styled Golf adopted the now orthodox transverse engine/front-wheel drive layout. Possessing excellent performance and handling, practical accommodation and boxy good looks, the Golf was a runaway success worldwide.

Introduced in 1980 and built by coachbuilders Karmann of Osnabrück, the Golf cabriolet side-stepped the 1984-onwards Mk2 body style completely, continuing to be built in Mk1 form until superseded by the Mk3 version in 1993.

This Golf Cabriolet was first owned by Pierre Boulez (1925-2016), the celebrated French composer, conductor, writer and creator of musical institutions, who was one of the classical music world's dominant figures of the post-war era. Boulez kept the car until March 2012 (Déclaration de Cession on file) and it has belonged to the current vendor since July 2016. Additional documentation consists of a current French Carte Grise and a copy of the original CG in Pierre Boulez's name
