Registration: F901 KNM

Offered without reserve

The Volkswagen Golf GTi is an iconic hatchback that solidified its place in automotive history as a practical performance car. The Mk. II featured a 1.8 litre inline-four engine producing some 137bhp with its 16-valve engine. While modest by modern standards, its lightweight design, precise five-speed manual transmission, and lively engine made it thrilling to drive. The GTi delivered sharp handling, thanks to a well-tuned suspension, front-wheel drive, and excellent weight distribution. Its compact dimensions made it nimble on twisty roads and a breeze to drive in urban environments.

Visually the hallmark design elements of the GTi lineage: bold red accents on the grille, squared-off styling, and alloy wheels. Inside, the plaid-patterned sport seats and ergonomic layout underscored its driver-focused ethos. Practicality was another strong suit. The hatchback design provided ample cargo space, and its robust engineering made it dependable and relatively affordable to maintain.

First registered 22nd October 1988 this M. II Golf GTi has been lovingly shaped into a modern day restomod by our vendor who has also daily driven the car for the past nine months including, in his words, in 3 hour M25 traffic jams where it has not missed a beat. Subject to a ground up restoration with photos through the process available. This example boats new Bilsteins all around, poly bushes throughout, is 15 mm lower with Mk. III brake upgrade, Mk. III top mounts, fabricated ram air induction, custom race and fuel lines throughout, a tubular manifold and custom-built exhaust. The engine upgrades were limited to a skimmed head and valve seals.

Further works included a new headliner, 16v steering wheel, refurbished original stereo with Alpine six speaker conversion and while the interior was stripped out sound matting/deadening material was fitted underneath the carpet throughout. To finish a £2,500 full wrap in Purple was applied as you can see with new Rota wheels and tyres and a new front windscreen with green sun strip within the glass.

Our vendor states that performance wise he wanted the engine to be standard but the car to reflect more modern modifications so that it performs better than when new, he also wanted it to be used as a daily driver, handling on rails while quieter at speed with a modern touch of and no shrinking violet. In our vendors words ‘an awesome car and more fun than any modern sportscars he has owned’. Offered without reserve but with a build that would have cost twice our guide, this is a great opportunity to bring some fun and colour into your motoring. Consigned by Mathew Priddy

Guide Price £8,000-£15,000
