Chassis No.: LD434370

Engine No.: LF043425HE

Registration: VAY 424S

Stylish, fast and practical, the Stag began life as a Triumph 2000 based styling exercise by Italian carrossier Giovanni Michelotti. A 2+2 convertible, Michelotti's design featured a quad-lamp grille and sculpted front and rear ends, the latter destined to appear on many future Triumphs. By the time production commenced in 1970, the 2000's six-cylinder engine had been replaced by a three litre V8. A padded, 'T' shaped roll bar bracing the door pillars and windscreen was one of the Stag's most distinctive features and the model was available in soft top, hardtop or soft with hardtop formats. Motor Sport described the Stag's interior as, 'well appointed, having all the usual instrumentation one would expect in a high performance car.'

This Carmine Red Triumph was registered on 13th October, 1977 and has clearly been a much treasured vehicle by its four previous owners. The coachwork is in very good order as is the contrasting biscuit interior and new mohair hood coupled with new burr walnut wood dash. Having been discovered by our vendor, a prominent Stag specialist, in a garage in 2016, he decided to purchase the car and set about a restoration to produce a lovely car worthy of showing at local events.

Coupled with a full repaint, this example then underwent a full 'top end' engine rebuild, this also included reconditioned heads, new German timing chains, new water pump, clutch and clutch master and slave cylinders and rebuilt carburettors. New bushes were fitted throughout and upgraded braided hoses used for brake lines which lead to the fully reconditioned wheels and new tyres. This manual, with overdrive, example is described as stunning underneath and certainly handsome. The 2997cc, V8 engine started immediately when requested and ran very well, indeed, with the restoration this is described as driving fabulously well.

This car is supplied with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 11th April 2020, an original handbook and invoices dating back to 1982. Without doubt these are delightfully good-looking sports cars of the period and with that glorious engine note, this example is a fine way to enjoy those balmy summer evenings we all look forward to.
