This 1981 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is powered by its original 6-cylinder engine, which is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The subject of a recent, frame-off restoration, this FJ40 features many different features that make it very capable off-road. Outfitted with new ARB Old Man Emu leaf spring suspension and rolling on 15-inch black steel wheel shod in new 31x10.5x15 BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires with manual locking hubs on the front axle, the package makes for a comfortable ride when moving on down the road or mountainside. Up front is a simple black bumper that holds a Warn winch as well as a couple of rectangular LED lights while on the driver's side is a red trail jack.
The red accents well with the painted red Toyota logo on the grille as well as the red Warn logo on the winch. Other features include modern, round LED headlights to light up the trail and a roof rack, to accentuate the off-road nature of this vehicle, that features the words "FJ40" and "Toyota" painted in red.
The undercarriage of this vehicle is quite clean and seems to show no visible rust. Moving to the back one can find the spare tire carrier and the pull up hatchback style door that is typically found on many earlier FJ40's. These doors open to the rear cargo area which houses two foldable bench seats that sit opposite to each other and still feature the wrapping from when the seats were restored. Up front are two bucket seats, which have also been restored. Sitting in between the seats are the gear shifter, transfer case shifter, parking brake, cup holders, and center console. To ease parking and hitching up a trailer, a reverse camera has been installed.
Ahead of the driver is a full assortment of gauges from which to command the vessel. The odometer, which reads a bit over 114,000 miles, sits snug within the speedometer.
This 1981 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is a clean example that is outfitted with both classic and modern amenities allowing this vehicle to get out of situations many other trucks would struggle to get into.
