Intended as a replacement for the 914, Porsche and VW’s joint project, the 924, was widely criticized by Porsche enthusiasts for its underwhelming performance and 2-liter Audi engine. For 1982, Porsche chose to re-work the 924 by designing and installing its own all alloy 2.5-liter engine and implemented braking, interior, suspension, and bodywork upgrades. The result was a much better looking, performing, and aggressive car that was unquestionably worthy of the Porsche badge.

1985 saw the introduction of the 944 Turbo, which had a turbocharged and intercooled version of the standard four-cylinder, making 38 more horsepower than the standard 924. Other upgrades for the Turbo included front and rear brakes from the 911 and an innovative ceramic port liner that allowed it to have equal performance with or without smog equipment.

This 944 Turbo finished in Guards Red over a black and beige interior is an excellent example. Options ordered on the car include front and rear leather seats, a Monterey digital cassette radio, a rear window wiper, a four-spoke steering wheel, cruise control and an electric sunroof. Only 25,245 of the 163,192 944s built were 944 Turbos and only 13,982 Turbos were sold in the U.S., making this a relatively rare example. The owner’s manual, manual case, and warranty and maintenance book are included with the sale. The odometer displays just 9,680 miles. While the title indicates the mileage exempt, the current owner believes with authority that the mileage indicated on the odometer is actual, from new. This pristine 944 Turbo would be a complementary addition to any Porsche collection.
