The Porsche 924 was a design commission undertaken by Porsche for VW/Audi that was abandoned by the client and sold back to Porsche late in development with Audi agreeing to build the car at its Neckarsulm plant. It was the first Porsche to be powered by a water-cooled, front-mounted engine to make production easier - this front-engine, rear wheel drive arrangement was normal for most other manufacturers but unusual for Porsche having previously only used mid- or rear-mounted engines of a boxer configuration, all of which had been air-cooled. The 924 was a success and eventually evolved into the ’S’ using the larger 944's 163bhp, 2.5 litre straight four engine with the suspension upgraded to cope.

Registered in 1987, this is a very late manual example, so benefits from the improvements Porsche made during the years of production and has covered only 58,500 miles and boasts just three former keepers. Originally supplied by Porsche Canterbury as seen in the original bill of sale and Porsche certificate of production and presented in guards red with factory electric sunroof and tan interior which is in excellent condition throughout. The bucket seats, with one piece backs, appear a little used surmountable with the mileage the alloy wheels are unmarked. The ‘80s inspired black and gold vinyl stripes were added really making the car stand out from the crowd.

Boasting a Blaupunkt Alicante retro look radio, the original dealer number plates and window sticker. Over the years the 924 has been fastidiously maintained. In 2019 there were new clutch slave and pipes, a list of small items seen too, and a major service. Most recently it had a 111 point health and geometry check from Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex in December 2020.

The owner has kept on top of every minor problem that many would live with, and last summer it has had an no expense spared mechanical make-over indeed the suspension was fully overhauled with new parts fitted, old parts sandblasted and painted and new Coilovers in 2021, coupled to a custom built stainless steel sports exhaust fitted in May 2021 at a cost of £1440. In all over £11,000 has been spent in this owners stewardship to ensure the car is in top condition.

With all Porsche prices climbing good 924s are creeping out of the affordable sports car category and one with this mileage, condition and service history will be front of the queue.
