Looking to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2018, Porsche introduced the 991-generation 911 Speedster. Only 1,948 examples would be built, celebrating the hear that Dr. Porsche built his first two-seat roadster in Austria. Following in the footsteps of the 356 Speedster, G-Series Speedsters of 1989, 964 Speedsters and most recently the 997-generation Speedsters, the 991-generation Speedster matches its visual panache with exceptional performance.
Essentially a 911 GT3 with its roof cut off, the Speedster is based on a cabriolet body shell and features extensive use of carbon-fiber for the front trunk lid, front fenders, doors, engine cover, and interior trim. As with previous versions, the windshield and glass were shortened to lend a sleeker appearance. The removable fabric top can be folded beneath the double-humped tonneau when not in use, but its hard to imagine wanting to use the Speedster without the roof down.
The new Speedster uses the 991.2’s 4.0-litre DOHC flat six-cylinder engine with an alloy case. Four-valve cylinder heads and direct fuel injection deliver 502 bhp with 346 foot-pounds of torque. The Speedster is capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.6 seconds with a maximum of 310 km/h. A six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capability is standard, as are carbon-ceramic disc brakes with their huge yellow calipers which provide amazing stopping power.
Finished in Racing Yellow over a Black leather interior, this Speedster is presented today in virtually as-new condition. Having only accrued delivery mileage, its odometer is currently showing just under 100 km from new. Exceptionally well outfitted, the car’s colour scheme carries through to the interior, as it is fitted with Racing Yellow seat belts, centre-console and dashboard trim painted to match, and black door pulls. Additional options include the 90-litre fuel tank, front-axle lift system, 20-inch Speedster wheels, leather-trimmed bucket seats, PCM with the Sport Chrono package, a rear-view camera, and fire extinguisher. Black “Porsche” side-script has been added celebrating 911s of the 1960’s.
Combining classic looks with cutting edge performance, the 991-generation Speedster is the fastest and most exciting drop-top 911 ever built. This Racing Yellow example is virtually as-new throughout and ready to be used and enjoyed as intended.
