Porsche’s GT3 racing program was running at full tilt in the early 2000s when it introduced the GT3 RS, a lightweight, race-ready, street-legal 911 built to homologate the 996-based GT3 RSR racer. Developed by Hans-Georg Breuer, engineer in charge of production-based racing power trains, the GT3 RS’s Mezger M96 flat-6 engine displaced 3.6 liters and incorporated a revised air intake system, smaller valves, a unique cam profile, low-mass flywheel and other modifications to meet FIA, Le Mans and ALMS regulations, developing 381 HP at 7,400 RPM and 284 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 RPM.

A racing-geared, all-synchromesh 6-speed manual transaxle with limited-slip differential was the only available transmission. The RS’s suspension was 3mm lower than the standard GT3 and featured new sandcast uprights with larger bearings and adjustable coilover shocks and control arms. The Turbo’s cross-drilled disc brakes were employed with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers inside unique 18-inch multi-spoke GT3 alloy wheels. The RS was “commendably light,” thanks to such weight-saving features as minimal insulation, a polycarbonate rear window and a carbon fiber hood, side mirrors and rear wing.

Built specifically to meet FIA GT rules, the GT3 RS was limited to 682 units for RoW (Rest of World) markets and never officially sold to the North American market, a fact that makes these cars very exclusive in the United States and Canada. This exceedingly rare 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 RS was originally delivered to Norway and later purchased by DK Engineering in the United Kingdom. It was imported into the United States and sent to Wallace Environmental Testing Laboratories in Dallas, Texas, for emissions modifications to meet domestic requirements applicable to the 2018 model year.

Painted in RS-exclusive Carrara White with red accents and red wheel centers, its interior appointments include a factory roll cage with additional bracing, fixed-back Recaro bucket seats with a driver-side Schroth racing harness, an adjustable sueded microfiber-wrapped steering wheel with red accent stitching, black leather and microfiber upholstery, power windows, air conditioning, a GT3-branded tachometer and GT3 aluminum sill plates. This 2004 911 GT3 RS is among the rarest and most desirable of factory racing Porsches available in the North American market.
