This 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster—chassis number 80354—is documented with its original Kardex build sheet and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which verifys the cars matching-numbers engine and original Signal Red paint combined with rare Acella-Bast interior material. The material is a tan basket weave vinyl that Porsche only used in Speedster blue cars and a select few red cars from the Speedster’s inception in 1954 when only three paint colors were offered on the model. Documentation includes a March of 1955 build sheet date and import record by Hoffman of New York.
Today the Speedster is freshly restored from a professional bare metal paint job that has a bright smooth blemish-free show-quality shine with superb original dimension gaps around all the opening body panels. Bodywork includes the proper lips around the wheels and the car’s bottom edges. All new Acella-Bast material was sourced and installed with the finest trim and precision application process—with new square weave carpeting and German top and boot material recreating an exceptionally detailed an inviting period representation.
From the four-corner suspension to under the dash this car has received complete attention to detail with a precise undercoating meeting the paint lines the car was assembled to show quality. The original headlights have been restored with brake and turn signal lights. All bright work is triple-plated—such as on the windshield frame—or polished—as on the original four bumper guards after restoration. The matching numbers engine has been rebuilt, detailed to its original factory appearance and the new optional sports exhaust with chrome tips.
The Speedster has a new clutch and pressure plate, new brake system including the master cylinder, new brake lines, new wheel cylinders a refreshed fuel system. The car was assembled using restored black oxide or cadmium hardware and shows correctly. The Speedster rolls on factory 16-inch wheels with new tires and valve stem clips, while the spare tire is held under the hood by the correct hold down strap. This car possesses attention to detail everywhere you look, from the hood hinges which are properly painted with the bolts detailed as new to cotter pins in the hinge pins on the door. More than 60 years removed from its introduction, this Speedster has factory delivery appeal.
