The LeMans was introduced as the top-of-the-line trim upgrade to the Pontiac Tempest in 1961. While the first generation was designed as a compact car, it was redesigned in 1964 as an intermediate sized car. The LeMans can be differentiated from other models by louvers behind the front wheelwells and LeMans badging on the rear fenders. The 1965 LeMans falls into the second generation which ran from 1964-1967.
